My plans have changed, my car started as a street class bracket drag car and was to eventually see some autocross time. Well I've decided to just drive and cruise it. I have a new Milidon road race pan and am looking for recommendations for use on a street car. I have a stock 5 qrt pan on now and would like to increase the volume for those times when I get a little spirited driving bug. Any experiences?

I have used the Road Race pan in the past , nice pan no ground clearance issues but extra capacity

I just ordered one for my car to gain the ground clearance for street driving. Should have installed in 1.5 weeks and dropped in to the car shortly after. Everything I have read about this pan send positive with the exception of one guy who's TTI header were close on the drivers side for some reason.

I had to trim the k frame motor mount brackets both sides and slightly dent the TTI header tube that goes above the tank to complete the install. Seems to seal good and no leaks. Kind of expensive for an oil pan.

What size headers ?

What heads?

This is a 416 small block?

I think there's a correlation with dented the headers and having to trim the K member. Something is off with the motor placement.

I tried to install this pan last year but it wouldn't fit while motor was in car. Called Milidon and was told to either pull trans. or lift motor, got pissed because I have pulled many oil pans no problem, wanted to be able to pull if I had a problem at the track. Anyone running this pan with the longer pitman arm?

Small block or big block?

Pulling a stock small block pan at the track with a motor in it would be quite a chore.

There is only so much available space to design an effective pan between Kmember, exhaust, and steering linkage.

I've run the stock pan and sucked it dry at the track. Lifters clattered until I let it sit a the track for 1/2 hour and the foam/aeration went away. The Tim Werner's old Red Valiant with custom Charlie's pan got low oil pressure also so he parked it. It now has a milodon pan.

Running a big block and pulling a pan isn't too bad. Hardest part is separating pittman and idler arm from steering link.

I installed one on my BB without lifting the engine. Went in fairly easy. You need to align the pick up tube just right to clear the baffles. Then the pan went right on. There were no clearance issues either. I also used a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench to tighten the nuts.

Well I decided to try and install this pan again. I have had a leak at the back of the block and tried to diagnose with a dye and uv light and am still not sure if it's the pan, seal retainer or the seal. So today I pulled the pan, pickup and retainer. Got things cleaned up figured I would test fit the milodon pan without the pickup so I wouldn't have to lift the motor to install it and see if there are any issues. Put a few bolts in to hold it and it clears the K member no problem but when I turn wheels to the right the idler arm hits the pan and when I turn to the left the drag link hit the pan. It appears that the longer pitman/ idler arms would give more clearance but I 'm not ready for them yet. This pan will sit about an inch lower than the K member and I don't have a skid plate so I'm ready to give up on this setup and stay with a stock 5 quart pan or find a good six quart pan that will fit like stock. Any recommendations for a 6 quart pan?

Well 3 days of crickets and frustration trying to install road race pan I went back to my stock one. Milodon tried to  tell me they install this pan all the time with no problems. Waited a day so they could test fit one and tell me it goes on just fine so I ask what trans and car did you try it on and the response was they don't test fit to car just a block on a stand! After exchanging more pics of my set up the rep says oh you have to pull the trans or motor to install with an auto trans. I guess you guys that have had no problems with install in car probably have a 4 speed where the bell housing gives more clearance than an auto. They didn't address the steering issue so I'm done with them . On another note when replacing my stock pan I went to my local parts store and am finding it hard to buy gaskets of the shelf. Everything has to be ordered and usually a day or two for delivery. Need to stock up on these once common parts. Still looking for a good hemi pan.

autoxcuda thanks for the link to pics. I've searched a lot sites and I recall seeing that post but didn't notice the pics of the pan. Your picture confirms that the 4 speed gives more clearance than the auto and the dents in the pan match where mine hit.  The spindle bump stops are a quarter of a steering wheel turn from hitting. The total turn on normal setup is 3 1/2 stop to stop so that is 1 /34 from center to full right or 1 3/4 to the left and my wheel stops at 1 1/2 turns either direction. The shortened radius is probable moot since I have had larger tires hit the frame before the bump stops. Just don't want it to hang up and lose control of the wheel.

There are replacement wear parts in the suspension. As we all have. These aftermarket idlers and pitmans vary greatly in over all outside dimensions company to company. I've seen people have issues about clearances in 100% stock setups with new suspension parts.

This pan a very high performance part for modified cars. That saying things may need to be modified to fit. This performance part will not fit like original parts and probably will not have clearances between other parts like the factory did. This goes for many aftermarket parts.

Weird your having so much trouble. I have this pan installed on my 451 with headers and firm feel fast ratio arms. Fit just fine with me. Something is "off" with your set up? Motor mounts? brackets not installed on the correct side of the ears?
I did have to trim the k frame gussets slightly to get it to clear but that was it.  :notsure:
