My buddy just bought a 88 ramcharger with a 9.25 rear and 3.55 gears and he's getting rid of it. Can that be modified to fit an ebody?

RUNCHARGER

I suppose it could. The width is probably pretty close. I don't think I would though. Not sure there is a pinion snubber provision, they use a crush sleeve, probably need a different length driveshaft. Also the wheel bolt pattern would not be 5 on 4.5 although you could find earlier axles and drums off a 2WD pickup that would have the 5 on 4.5.

wouldn't an 8 and 3/4 be equally as strong and 70 lbs lighter?

I would think it would be cheaper to find an 8 3/4 then modify the 88 ramcharger?  :notsure:

Yes: Easier to use an 8 3/4. If you can't find an E-body 8 3/4 you can use a C-body one without too much trouble or a 65-70 B-body 8 3/4 for more tire clearance. Nothing wrong with a 9.25, but it isn't a bolt in and I don't really see an advantage to using it.

Thanks for the detail. I have an ebody 8-3/4 already in the car. This 9-1/4 was free and thought it might be stronger. I'll just stick with that I have
