Hi y'all people have suggested an overflow tank. Is this a tank or reservoir?
Does this type recirculate the antifreeze? Am I doing more harm than good?
Thanks

The ideal and proper setup that is used on all Mopars since 1973 is a recovery system that will keep the radiator filled. This has a hose that goes to the bottom of the reservoir and with the proper radiator cap ( it is different) as the coolant gets hot in the radiator it expands and the hot coolant is fed to the recovery bottle. When the coolant cools it creates a vacuum, the caps valve seal opens and  sucks the coolant from the bottle back into the radiator. A constant cycle. An overflow is just one way. The hot coolant goes into the can and when the car cools down, the coolant level is now low.
Some one thinks it is a waste of time ? The only way that the radiator tank can stay full, hot & cold is with one. Otherwise You fill your radiator and when it warms up the hot coolant must go somewhere. And after it cools down, the level will now be low.   Read about the difference between a "modern" cars system and the older traditional systems based on engine and radiator heights.

Unless your engine likes to puke out water it probably is a waste of time. I think 74 was the first year that used a recovery tank on the side of the radiator. If you want one, like he said you need a different cap. One that has 2 seals.

Mine had one when I purchased it... chrome unit with an o-ring cap. Prior owner had overheating issues which I have fixed. In the end I just removed it and reclaimed the space.
