After going through the Transmission Bench rebuild videos, along with my (granted 30 years ago) experience rebuilding a 904, I'm looking to stock up on the parts to rebuild my 46RH core.  This is NOT going to be handling major power, just a middle beefed small block which likely still wants a couple more clutch steels and friction disks (depending on what is in my core).  I've been reviewing the Sonnax brand improvement parts and putting together a list of what I want on top of the overhaul kit.  At least a few small parts have turned up as 'no longer in production' so I don't want to get caught short.

Other than an overhaul kit I'm not buying specific parts until I know what I need after disassembly (but might if parts keep getting harder to get; better to have extra).  After all a Sonnax ZIP or Sure Cure kit (the latter requires tools so only going that route if I find a shop to do the valve body upgrade) might be redundant if I need to get a rebuilt valve body that already has the parts.

Rock Auto is pretty haphazard on availability and I'm not finding a lot of info about the quality of the kits.  Transmission Bench sells a fair number of the parts and I am considering them in thanks for their awesome videos.

Any other known good vendors, hopefully 'fair priced'?  Any recommended overhaul kits or would it be better (if not cheaper) to piece them together on top of a gasket and seal kit?

I could also use info on a good lockup torque convertor.  I can find the rebuild 'stock' ones for the Dakota this trans originally came in and that may be just fine, certainly for the initial 318.

I do have a shop press and fixtures for dealing with the large OD spring assembly...

Thanks

Not sure exacting what parts you are looking for but I'd check with Brewers or Passion Performance for Trans parts.

Not sure if they work on automatics but I have bought parts for my T-56 from here. Great service I found. If they can't help ask them for a recommendation maybe?

I don't watch Youtube much but there is a really good trans guy on there that I watch for tips on the diesel automatics. Precision Transmissions I think is the name and Richard is the guy. Not some backyard guy but a pro that does it for a living and has to stand behind them. I would use the same vendor as he does for Automatic parts. He's done a couple of 727 and 904 builds that I watched.

Thanks for responding!  Other than the parts that have to be done for every overhaul (seals, gaskets, frictions and steels, etc) and the ones the videos identify as 'always replace' like some large snap rings and the OD accumulator spring, I don't yet know what I need.  I'll likely replace all the thrust bearings and give a really close look at the two ball bearings, and see if the sprag needs to be replaced (by a bolt-in unit).  Not doing that last by default.  I also bought a Sonnax Zip Kit that, per a number of reviews helps fix some shortcomings in the original design of the valve body, and I am leaning towards the Transmission bench super overhaul kit but wanted some alternate sources to look at.

Other parts will depend on their state when the core is disassembled; I really like the Transmission Bench videos for their parts examination.  May not need any, but if I do I'd like to be ready to order them and not have to start searching from scratch.

BTW the bolt in sprag is from A&A Transmissions so I'm looking at them also.   RSGear doesn't seem to have anything relevant but thanks for the link.

@Duodec Not far from you in Lowell, IN. John Cope is the owner and a great Mopar guy. Besides his racing stuff ( he rebuilt my 727), he has hundreds of parts new and used. If you need unique Mopar transmission parts, Cope has them.

Thanks to both of you.  I'm still putting together lists of parts (as much as I can without disassembly).  Might be ordering some that end up were not necessary but it will be a comfort knowing new parts are in some of those places.

Also found some references to being able to add an additional clutch and steel in the OD section of a gas transmission, and possibly which is likely to help a lot with the reliability and durability of the transmission so I'm generating those parts lists as options.  Likely have to wait until mine is disassembled though to be sure I get the right parts.

I don't know yet if I have 3 or 4 pinion planetaries but any 3 pinions will be upgraded to four.  Given the planned engines (factory 318 2 barrel and a beefed up 360 down the road, 4 pinion should be sufficient per what I've read, though if I have to replace a four pinion for cause, I'll probably look at a better one.  But its not like I'm going to be running this behind a Cummins.

Hey Wade, Any idea on how he's doing? If I remember right he was having some tough times business wise last I heard.
