Need to add ATF to my auto transmission real cuda 383 nom car. Not sure what transmission is mated to it. Someone replaced the 383 hp with a base 383 so unsure of the transmission in there. What ATF is recommended, not indicated on the stick?
Thanks

Factory transmission would have Dexron II in it but that is very hard to find now and most run ATF+4 synthetic, Dxeron/Mercon or Type F. If you don`t know what is in there it is probably best to drain and flush it out and refill as you should not mix certain type together. I always ran Type F in my Barracuda back when it had a built Fairbanks full manual valve body transmission in it.

For a standard 727 ATF+4 is the current fluid. It is backwards compatable with the original fill.
Good idea to just do a drain, filter and refill as standard maintenance anyway.
And always check fluid on level ground, warmed to operation temperature and with trans in neutral. 1 pint low is the proper level.
FSM has the procedure to follow. Free downloads on this site.
Be careful when installing pan.
The rails must be flat and the pan bolts are torqued to only 150 inch pounds.
A new steel reinforced gasket is the best and won't squeeze out when tightening. Is reusable as well.  About $30-40 though.
