Last year, I was contemplating a cam change in my barracuda. I bought a set of Sealed Power lifters only to learn the cam I wanted was on back order. I put it all on hold pending a cross country move. Ready to go find the cam I want but lately I've been hearing all kinds of talk about lifters being junk these days. My car runs fantastic now and I'd rather not roll the dice for a minor cam upgrade unless I can be sure that certain brands are okay. Is it a clearance issue or just poor quality metal?

A lot has changed .
they used to make 100s of lifters / day for all makes of engines , now virtually all engines are using roller cams so Flat tappet cams are minimal use .
Johnson makes the best lifters & there was a fire which took out one plant & overloaded everyone else so quality dropped .
Sealed power may be sourced from Johnson & Are one of the best names out there & the shortages have long since been overcome , the biggest challenge now is using good oils , SJ is the best & SL is the last  oil that will work on a flat tappet cam , often SJ oils can still be found for agricultural / off road applications , also zinc additives or Joe Gibbs Or Brad Penn oils are formulated correctly .
Don't overlook valve springs with a new cam , I would avoid using Comp cams , Lunati is a far better choice for Mopars !
