Well about 30 minutes after this picture on the way to the last cruise in of the year, car lost oil pressure, started making a horrible noise and died...I think my 51 year old engine finally gave me the middle finger... Diagnosis next weekend....anyone want to buy a 73? Anybody got a 360 long block for cheap...sigh...

You could build that engine depending on what you find.....Joe

5 years ago my 360 blew.  I found a seized 72 360 in salvage yard for $100.  Reused the heads (redone), cam, intake manifold, carb, water pump.  Spent about $3000 on it for parts and labor (scat brand stroker kit) new oil pump, in a machine shop and now its a stroked 408.  Putting out something north of 400HP and runs strong.  It can be done..

I'm leaning towards just getting a 360 crate motor and transferring everything over. My car has a 318, I believe everything will bolt directly up to a 360 without issue. I just want to put something reliable in it

There is an issue with this plan. Not a big one as long as you deal with it before you install the crate motor. Your 318 is internally balanced...a 360 is externally balanced. You will need to get your torque converter weighted to match or replace the flywheel...whichever transmission you have.

Edit*** unless ordering an internally balanced 360 crate motor is an option?

To each their own I guess, but to me this just seems like a missed opportunity to build a motor.  :wrenching:

Looks like all current Blueprint small block Mopar offerings are 408 stroker engines. May be check Summit.

I have looked at that option to, pricing seems reasonable for what you get.

Change out he TQ converter as you likely want a different one with a better motor and you should be good to go  :burnout:

Step up to the Gen3 Hemi and experience a world of difference.
Cost more, but if you really plan to drive the car, you won't regret it.

318 to 360
As mentioned, 360s are externally balanced. So harmonic balancer and flywheel have to change.
If running manifolds, they should also change. Exhaust ports are much larger.
Same with intake.
Oil pan is different due to journal size.
Front accessories all work.
Drivers side motor mount bracket is different. One ear position on block is moved. 318 will work with about 3/8 thick spacer for 1 bolt.
If you have the 19" radiator, it will not cool 360.
All lessons I learned the hard way many years ago.

What is the manual trans option to go behind a gen3? that fits an ebody?

I'm not familiar with the newer manual transmissions.
But anything that will bolt up and fit the old small blocks will work with the Gen3.  I used the same 518 that was behind my 340.

The Tremec TKX 5 speed fits without any significant modifications. I have the older TKO version in mine.
