Like the title sez.... I'd like to hear what people from the area have to say about it.....

I have family there and been many times. It's a very nice place but like so many other nice places, it has grown quite a bit and those that have been there for years complain about the growth. Naturally, the rapid growth has raised home prices dramatically. Several friends of mine moved out there in the past two years and all of them love it despite the high price of living.

To me, the state is a big hot desert and Prescott offers a nice oasis because of the elevation. I want to move to Tennessee in a couple years but if I decided to stay on the western side of the US, Prescott would be in the top ten list.

I've been doing allot of reading about the area, so far I like what I'm hearing, I just feel like I must be missing something.....I know there isn't much work, thats okay for me, I either fly to where my work is or I work from my home.... But I do need good internet & so far I haven't been able to get enough hard data on that subject to feel comfortable.... I've had Cable internet here for years & I'm kinda spoiled.. Makes work projects much easier...  Climate looks great much cooler than Phoenix, expensive sure but I live in California....  I get that folks who lived there for years don't want change... I want my town to go back to how it was in 75 too... But the reality is change happens....

All valid points. I will ask about Internet. I think anytime you are outside city limits, population is less dense and companies put less infrastructure into the area. I'm gonna guess Prescott rural Internet is mediocre unless you are will to spend some real money per month on Ferrari Internet service. I'll see if it differs in the city limits of town.

Definitely cooler than Phoenix. Phoenix would make a good overflow for hell. As far as price, if you are coming from Bakersfield, expect to pay more but if you coming from the Bay Area, you will probably see a big decrease in housing cost.

I flew out there once and had to go into Phoenix. It sucked and added quite a bit of time and expense driving into Prescott from Phoenix. Since then, I have always driven and that kinda blows too as you have to take a windy road for many miles up the mountain. But I like driving so I tend to choose that option anyway.

I guess in short, I'd be all over it as a retiree but a little hesitant if I had to commute fairly often for work or other stuff.

There's a reason for that.... When Sheldon posted about possibly moving to Northern California I PMed him & told him my thoughts & suggested that he too look at Prescott....  I was me being selfish cause that way I would know there is another Mopar guy in the area..... Oh, and because it does seem like a nice area......   I'm sure it has things some folks would have an issue with... But honestly I've always for Modesto as acceptable & if you check polls it's supposed to be one of the worst cities in the US..... Personally I think the poll takers are for of shit(Like most news channels) but what do I know... Look how accurate the polls were two years ago...

Ha, ha: It must be a great minds think alike deal! My buddy lives in Phoenix and it isn't for me but something like Prescott could work by the sound of it. I'm kind of thinking reverse snowflake deal. Own in the U.S. and maybe motorhome it in Canada in the summer for a few months traveling around visiting friends. I have a ton of friends in Canada but they're all spread out anyway.

Good plan cause in the summer either you completely leave the area or you have to stay up in the Prescott/Chino Valley area cause if you go down to Phoenix you could spontaneously combust.....   :haha:

I don't live there, but I have visited Prescott twice.

I loved the old town area. Watson lake was cool to hike around. I couldn't believe there was a body of water in Arizona. The temperature is cooler than Phoenix for sure. The only down side I saw was it wasn't really a small town. Maybe more of a medium town.

If you are looking to make this your final home, I'd check into medical services as well. My uncle lives there and is up in age. He has a variety of medical problems and he has to frequently travel to Phoenix for decent services. His big complaint was when he required emergency treatment, the ambulance takes you to the closest hospital and it's mediocre at best from what he tells me.

One of the many reasons we want to relocate just outside of Nashville for our retirement was based partly on the excellent medical services nearby. That and all the cool cars and parts seem to be on that side of the country.
