I remember that storm, as when I first heard that Buffalo was putting snow plows on garbage trucks. I was the first of many more giant storms that Buffalo took. It was bad in Cambridge, Ontario too, and I remember one guy just abandoning his car in front of our apartment- on the main street! Lucky for us, the liquor store was open and only about 300 yards from our wee rats nest, so we were warm and wet.
In the immortal words of Jimmy Scott- "pace yourself!"

RI had one of those memorable blizzards in '78 The whole State was shut down for days.
Charlie was in the Navy Reserves at the time and was assigned to a fire station with a military truck to assist the fire trucks getting through unplowed streets. My Dad, a photographer, went up to take aerial pics for a newspaper.
I was a work at our family studio, but left just a bit late, couldn't make it up our driveway. These are from when my Brother in Law came to plow it out. It was completely buried and just the antenna was sticking out. He found it, but clipped the back quarter with the plow.

Well that video sure brought back some memories.   I was in high school when it hit.   I knew it was really bad when I saw one of the giant snow plows mostly buried in a drift.  My parent's house was a couple of blocks from a large public park.   The houses right next to the park were the 2 story Cape Cod type with steep roofs over an attic.   The side away from the park was completely buried under drifts all the way up to the top of the roofs.  A bunch of kids were called by the athletic director to come in to school to shovel out the emergency exits so the school could be reopened (we'd already been out of school for about 10 days).

People watched out for and helped each other and still do.   We get a lot of jokes and bad press about the winter weather, but it's still a great place to live.
