Got this from a friend, thought it was cool and share worthy.

Ya I watch all the Grand Tour episodes. I enjoy it. I find it amazing that town went from village, to the same population as Canada in 30 years. :o

They have another episode comparing the Demon, RTR Mustang and a Camaro Exorcist. Very entertaining. Guess which one wins the 1/4 mile honours.

I wonder what the reasons are to build elevated roadways instead of building the road along the mountains? Environmental concerns? Shorter roads? No deer that can run in front of vehicles? Better not be in earthquake country.

Speed and efficiency.
And we are building a railroad...

The tolls are how they control who uses it so it seems?

Paying for use of the roads is an 18th, early 19th century concept. At that time only the "wealthy" could use the roads. It controlled who goes where then, and still does today.
In contrast,  the US highway system envisioned in the 1950's that Eisenhower started allowed increased business and commerce in the United States with our Federal Highway System.

Two sidebar notes; figures in history hve recognized the importance of roads and transportation in building a world power.  Hitler in Germany built the autobahn and the ancient Romans also built roads to basically keep commerce and money moving.

Make no mistake; China is building their modern empire!
Sorry for the diatribe; it's the teacher in me!
