Just a general question. I've used both (but like Flickr more). Anyway I'm way over the 1000 pic's "free" limit. Who's gonna be paying or will you be off loading?  :notsure:

After getting burnt by the Bucket, I don't rely on any online photo storage solutions.  I would recommend off loading before they lock up your account.

I have around 13,000 pictures on Flickr. As much as I didn't like being subjected to their extortion, I didn't feel I had much choice but to become a "pro" at the beginning of the year at a discount rate they were offering then of around $45 for a year.
I'm don't have many ideas for how to save and share photos outside of these sites.

Brad, I get it. PITA either way....  :bricks:

buy a removable hard drive and put all your pictures on that for storage.

:iagree:
I don't use any online storage. You can buy a couple terra byte drive for $100, so why pay a yearly fee?

I have a portable hard drive that is mainly full of pictures.  I also usually keep my cards from my cameras after I fill them rather than delete the pictures and reuse.  I have 2 cameras and each of them usually a card will last over a year.  So if my portable hard drive got damaged or stolen, I could dig back through the cards and recover pictures, though it would be time consuming.
One of my biggest motivations for having online picture storage, is that I organize pictures of events into albums, and can share the links of the collections with friends and online forums such as this one. Posting individual pictures online or attaching to emails is time consuming and limiting.  Rather than say here's a half dozen pictures from today's show, it's here is a link to my collection of 75-100 pictures from today's show.
Also, I can access my Flickr account from elsewhere.  Even at home it's convenient because I usually use my iPads and only fire my laptop up a few times a week.  I can look at Flickr on my iPad.
I haven't looked into the cost or work involved in setting up my own website.  Maybe that would be an alternative to using sites like Flickr.  Otherwise I don't have any good ideas other than pay them and hope the rate stays reasonable and they don't jack it up every year.

This is close to an issue I have . NIKKI pics, Family pics, Travel pics, it's so easy to click on a folder rather than dig in a massive file. I wonder what Ryan is doing??? He's got to have a gazillion pics by now

Ryan has over 100,000 pictures so far I think.
He's been paying for pro for a while on Flickr. Of course, he can probably write it off on his taxes since he's a professional writer.
