Note:
- I know I'm a little behind the curve since I have seen several threads with names applied to their rides. I thought it would be great to see it all under one thread for some sort of fun reference. -

I'll Start From The Beginning:

I know! I know! Guys don't really do such things. After-all, "It's just a set of wheels. Why name it?" Yet some if us have seen the mechanized life in our rides and that feel good feelings these classic machines returned to us. And really? That's not discussing the temperament and the highs and lows each of these machines give back to us as gearheads. So really, what should stop you from giving your ride a name? Right?

My Story:

Right after my wife and I returned from California, with our Challenger, we begin the process of acquiring a temp plate and registration with the state of Colorado. This required us to pay a visit to the county court house (small town). When we were almost done the gal behind the counter, out of the sky blue, asked me if I was going to give my Challenger a name? Hmmmm? Now I have little to no idea why she would asked that, but I fibbed a little and said, "I don't name my cars." This is the part where the love of my life (BTW - That would be my wife) spoke up and said, "That's not entirely true. You named your '68 Mustang = 'The Other Woman'."  You know something? She is right! Of course that was fuel for, "Why do men name their cars after females or reference females to their cars?" They chatted on about that subject while I drifted off in thought (Yes ladies! There are times we really don't listen to what you have to say). My thoughts took me back to my Challenger, waiting for me, in the garage. I was grinning ear to ear that I finally owned a big block e-body. I was like a kid on Christmas morning! Then my thoughts directed me to my responsible side of having my fun and yet to be sure I played nice with the local five-o (again small town). After-all I certainly didn't want to gain that kind of celebrity status or to get into trouble! Then it hit me!!! That name that not only personalized my ride to a "T", but defined her to the N-th degree.

Introducing "Trubel"...

Now I know what you're thinking and you're somewhat right (tv show). The name, however, does have meaning in the German vocab. and that is "Excitement".

There you have it!

Years ago we were involved with exchange students. Once we hosted a girl from Ecuador, I think it was. Being of Spanish decent she had a slightly darker complexion and long beautiful black hair.  She was very, very pretty but she has a few issues. So I named my 74 Challenger of her. It's dark (black), pretty and it has a few issues. It's name is Nina.
In 2012 we went to Ireland and while in Dingle we stayed at a B&B on Dingle bay. When we got there the women said her daughter was out on the bay practicing with the women's rowing team. This was the "women's" team, not the school team. Her name was Sheili Ann and she was 12 years old. Now there's a performance oriented girl. So I named my 2012 Challenger Sheili.

My convertible always leaked so I called it "Ol Drippy" after a character on an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
In recent years the leaking has gotten really bad so I started calling it Exxon Valdez.
It's getting picked up tomorrow to get taken to a shop to get the engine pulled and resealed, and repainted, so I have high hopes I will never call it Exxon Valdez again!  :woohoo:
If it still drips a little maybe back to ol drippy, otherwise I don't know what I'll call it, other than I'm proud to call it "mine" of course.
I don't really have a nickname for my T/A, I call my 71 "V Code".
My '09 B5 Challenger classic I call the blue bomber, though lately with my vintage fleet sort of unavailable to take to cruises for one reason or another, and friends sometimes giving me grief for being one of "those guys" cluttering up a cruise with a "new" car, I've been referring to it as "boring blue". :D

This thread is exactly what has been on my mind for some time now. I like the idea of naming my 'Cuda and to recently had called it "RedFish" because it is red, I live in Louisiana and the big game fish here is the redfish.  I went to the La. DMV internet page and checked to see if REDFISH was taken but it is. So is every other word I could come up with that had the work fish in it!  The only other name I could come up with I liked was TINFISH which is available so I have submitted my request for that plate.
Cheer!

I think it's kind of corny/silly when people name there projects but saying that I wouldn't say I've "named" my car but the kids did call it snotrod  due to the colour and the Disney movie. I 'd add because it's not a perfect show car ( paint looks ok in pictures or from 20feet) it's a bit of a ratty driver as compared to others rides. So I got this fake plate made up to amuse the kids. That and to put over the vin tag at shows to drive the purists nuts...  :D

Back in the late 1970's people were very concerned about the gas mileage of their cars, especially after several gas shortages,  while I was still driving a 340 V-8 Challenger.

People made comments about how I was driving a "dinosaur" and should get something more gas efficient.

I started to call my car "Dino" after the Flintstone's dinosaur/dog.

I then went and applied for personalized NJ plates for the car with the word  "XTINCT"  on my plate (6 letter state max). Thought is was appropriate.

When I drove the Challenger cross country in the early 80's I had someone flag me down in Colorado and ask me if I was a paleontologist?  This comment still brings a smile to my face to this day.

Still have the plates by the way.

I always attach a green dinosaur when I post.(.gif file) Not sure how to get it to move on this site?

Growing older is mandatory...growing up is optional.
