Does anyone out there know of a motorhome that was built with a 426 hemi in it ?   I had a man out here, yesterday, telling me about a 60's era motorhome that he collected that has a 426 hemi engine in it. Hopefully he will send me the #'s off the I.D. plate to search with. I am not particularly into motorhomes but this might interest me.

I thought most came with a 440, never heard of Hemi dropped in one..... :dunno:

You hear stuff like this a lot. People remember the wrong engine. Most likely it had a 413 or maybe a 440. The 413 was a very common motorhome engine back then. It's like the guys that say they had or knew someone that had a 440 hemi, and will argue with you all day long. But anything is possible. let us know if he gets back with any real info.

Built like that from a coach factory, very unlikely. Swapped in by an owner, possibly.

Yeah, if I had a dollar for every guy who told me about their 440 Hemi, I could probably afford to buy a 426 Hemi.

You are going to find a leprechaun hiding under a unicorn before you find a Hemi in a motor home.

Interesting, never knew that. I wonder how those exhaust manifolds flow? I assume they wouldn't fit an e-body anyhow?

I am fixing to buy on Fri a 72 440 with 727 that supposedly is from a motorhome .
Would there be any special markings on the pad ?
Wonder if the stamping by the drivers side pan rail would show anything different ?
From what I've read, it seems the cam will not be set for muscle car power, thats fine I want to finally do a complete engine teardown and rebuild anyhow.

I've got a motorhome with a 413 in it.

I've used a 318 motor home motor and a 440 MH engine.  Both were very dependable and relatively strong motors.  Smooth running motors for sure.    You have to change out lots of stuff.

Never heard of a Hemi in a motorhome.  Or boat for that matter.

Lots of guys yack it up with stories like that. If he swapped a 426 hemi into a motor home at any time in the last 50 years, the value of the engine was double or more what the motor home value was. 426 inch Hemis don't really build much steam until 3500-4000RPM so it would have been fun fuelling it up every time after cresting a hill.

My neighbor had a Challenger with a 440 Hemi he sold it about a year ago to buy a Hell Cat. Ok it was a 2011 Challenger with a 3rd Gen Arrington Engine 440 Hemi crate  :Stirring:

Thanks so much for the insights. I think this requires a trip down to see the thing. Curiosity killed the cat and I had better satisfy the monster. I will let you all know what I find out.

I think we already know but let us know anyway. Don't spend too much on gas going out of your way though.

i have a friend who says that the 413 industrial 8 bolt crank is the identical crank for the 426 Hemi.
Anyone here shoot holes in that?

I haven't heard that before. Some of them had the rear flange extended. The 413 Pass cranks will work in a 440 but have extra ears that should be cut off to lighten them.
If they were the same as a Hemi crank there isn't a big demand for them anymore as I don't know anyone that has built a stock stroke Hemi over the last 15 or so years.
