Tried something new this weekend.  Parkerizing some hardware.  Seemed to work pretty well.  Not a lot different from Black oxide  except for heating the solution and then baking it to get rid of Hydrogen Embrittlement.  The first two pictures show a parkerized bolt along side a phosphate bolt from AMK.  The third shows some of the pieces I did.

I bought a kit from Shooter Solutions, but all I used from them was the Heavy -Duty Manganese to make the solution.  First clean parts, I soaked them first in Degreaser and then let them sit overnight in rust remover.  I used Eastwoods gel.  Rinsed them off  and it was a couple days later before I started the process so of course they had flash rust on them.  I put them in PPG metal cleaner,  it only took a couple minutes to get them rust free again, rinsed them off, put them in a bucket of simply green,  rinsed them off again, put them in a container of water that I had heated up on the grill I was using,  and then immediately into the solution which was also heated up to about 180 degrees. It was important to not allow them to dry in between steps, because if they started to dry they would begin to flash rust.  After they went in the solution it only took 15 to 20 minutes and they were done.  As soon as they stopped  fizzing you knew they were done.  Then I took them out and rinsed them, and put them in my wife's stove and cooked them at 400 degrees for a half hour to get rid of any Hydrogen Embrittlement.  Took them right of the stove, back out to the shop and threw them in a bucket of 80/90 oil.  I let them sit overnight and cleaned them up next morning
