Can anyone help me identify this gearbox and pumps. I'm trying to determine if these are correct for my 70 Challenger before I have them rebuilt. These were on the car when I got it.

Here are the pics of the pumps. Both have the same number on them

Anyone happen to have Galen's White book and can assist with checking these numbers.

First thing I would do is check the parts book for the correct pump and gearbox. The parts book is located in the Resources section of this website. I would assume that the correct parts are dependent on engine in your Challenger. Here is a few photos of the parts that came on my 1970 Challenger R/T SE 383 with AC. My power steering pump is a Saginaw model. Can't quite tell from your photos but yours look like Federal pumps to me.

I hope they help you.

this definitely need more investigation/pictures/data/info but "WE" need to start somewhere- so here goes:

POWER STEERING BOXES
there's not much info out there for what is original/correct for our cars

#1 - from a Hamtramck assembled '69 Charger 318     :alan2cents: I believe original to the car
          903-SPD (Tuesday 9/3/68) * cast: 7298 (Monday 7/29/68) * assembled 2278 (Thursday 8/15/68) * G-2267282 R2

#2 - found in a Hamtramck assembled '70 Challenger R/T SE 383    :alan2cents: I believe this has been replaced @headejm
          cast: 12188 (Wednesday 12/18/68) * assembled 0169 (Thursday 1/16/69) * G-2267282 R1

#3 - from a Hamtramck assembled '70 Challenger 318     :alan2cents: I believe original to the car @Chaos-N-Mayhem
          A26-SPD (Sunday 10/26/69) * cast: 7109 (Monday 7/10/69) * assembled ???? * G-2267282 R5

#4 - from a Hamtramck assembled '70 Challenger R/T 383     :alan2cents: I believe original to the car @6bblgt
          702-SPD (Thursday 7/2/70) * cast: 5210 (Thursday 5/21/70) * assembled X X (?/??/??) * G-2267282 R7

I am of the impression that under normal circumstances the same foundry/manufacturer would be supplying the same assembly plants due to logistics/contracts/other and the components, such as the power steering boxes, would have similar attributes from month-to-month and even year-to-year
with @headejm 's power steering box having the date up-side-down VS. the others & the "CLOCK" on the webbing VS. nothing on the others - that it has been replaced at some point in the past 50 years and started life in a 1969 model year vehicle

Here's mine, if it helps. 11/4/69 SPD 440 RT Challenger. I'd have every reason to think this is original.

:iagree: @7E-Bodies it looks appropriate  :bigthumb:

I also believe these were painted "black" when new

I found a LA built B-body in a junkyard with a similar power steering box casting to @headejm 's - it has the "CLOCK" but the date has the correct orientation

#5 - from a Los Angeles assembled '69 Plymouth B-body    :alan2cents:  I believe original to the remains of a car in a junkyard
          car was built mid-January '69 * cast: 10298 (Tuesday 10/29/68) * assembled 3118 (Wednesday 11/6/68) * G-2267282 R2

#10
this is in a '71 Challenger, curious to the origins of this steering box - from the Phillips screw heads, "CLOCK" hand w/o dots & an odd date

#6 - found in a Hamtramck assembled '71 Challenger
          does + 1210 + decode as: Wednesday 1/21/70, Tuesday 12/1/70 or 121st day of 1970 (Friday 5/1/70) * G-2267282 R6
JH23 w/C22-SPD (Tuesday 12/22/70) the aluminum tag assembly date is 3080 (Wednesday 11/4/70), is this original to the car?

Chaos-N-Mayhem

This is brilliant info guys! I am learning a lot.your knowledge is appreciated.

mopar jack

I just took this box out of my 71 road runner, 383, 4 speed, air grabber car. I'm the second owner since 1994 and car was built at the L.A. plant in early August 1970.

mopar jack

Just sent my box to Firm feel and a warning  to remove the aluminum tag before you ship as they remove it and don't reinstall. My box had a lot of black paint on it.

Now I'm curious to check again. My date is correct but I never looked for the tag. Headed back to the shop.
