I`ve been on short and now long term disabiilty since May `19 when I was in a vehicle accident which reinjured my back. I`ve been trying to work part time and getting disability for the hours I don`t work but the back has been getting worse not better over the summer and I just stopped working two weeks ago. I still have  a little over a year on disability but the insurance company has referred me another company to get me on Social Security Disability. I still may be able to work at some point but I`m Ok with retirement as long as we can make it work financially. Anyone deal with or on SSD - good/bad?

No help specifically.
Hope you can get the health sorted.
SSD from what I understand is decent for payout living.

SSD is hard to get on from what I understand and sometime takes up to a year to be approved. After I had my heart attack in 2017 I was not sure I was going to be able to go back to work so I looked into it a bit. Fortunately I was able to get back to work but with certain restrictions. Then in April of this year I was permanently laid off because of Covid 19. I will be 65 on Nov 1st so I will be officially retired. Not sure of your age so collecting plain SS may not be a option. SS itself has its drawbacks. I can not actually start collecting until Jan of 2021 because I made to much money in 2020. Then they deduct Medicare from your check@ $144.00 a month and then you need a Supplemental ins. @ $148.00 per month and then you need a prescription plan @ $ 28.00 to 100.00 a month depending on what medications you are on. So you will be paying out $300 to 400 buck a month for insurance. I will be getting a part time job come January to help offset the cost of ins. since the SS check is not going to cover all my expenses plus I need CAR MONEY--LOL
Best of luck with your health and claim.

Well got some good news - disc bulge isn`t bad enough to require surgery  :ohyeah:  so going to try a couple steriod injections and hope that helps, if not they wil try other pain management options. From what I hear SSDI pays a bit more than regular SS but will still be a sizeable pay decrease so I may look at doing something from home for extra car $$. The disabilty ins co is Paying ALLSUP to represent me for SSDI and said usually 3-6 months to get approved which is fine as I`m currently getting paid at 60% income thru disabilty. I`m only 61 but can stay on SSDI long term once approved.

Glad to hear-hopefully the injections will work. They worked for me- I have 2 bad disc-L4-L5 and L5-S1. I got rear ended in 2013 by a Dodge Ram 1500 going 70 MPH. I was wondering if you get on SSD now will that drop out when you hit 65 and they force you on SS or does it stay the same?

I had injections before my surgery in `06 and again last year after the vehicle accident but they didn`t do anything for more either time. I had surgery on the same area - L4 and 5, S1.Neurosugoens nurse says they will do a "targeted" injection right at the trouble spot and she is hoping that might work better. The company respresenting me said that I stay on SSDI even after retirement age, hope she is correct.
