Sad to hear. Reading his story again it was truly sad how blatent NHRA was in trying to let GM win Pro Stock. It began in 71 and continued for a long time.

table was always tilted for GM , Mopar & Ford always had better products , Prostock Hemi was saddled with 400 extra lbs to carry .

Add to that list the friendly welcoming way Bob always treated his fans... You'd think he would be well inside his pit area working away at his car... Nope, most of the time he would be either at the edge or outside his pits signing autographs & talking with his fans... And there were allot of us, Many years I would attend 2-5 races & he always had crowds....   Even in the late 90's when he wasn't winning quite so much fans loved him... I was out in Phoenix one year & Bob got knocked out in the first round, he could have packed it in & headed for the next track but he stayed & signed autographs all day..  Class Act....

Darrel Aldermann also drew allot of Fans, Warren Johnson even with his success rarely had more than a dozen folks hanging around his pits, the guy didn't have time for being friendly

While it is cool to be a fierce competator on track or in a sport , there is no reason to be a jerk away from the sport !
I have a lot of respect for Donohue for this reason , he was nicknamed Mr Nice !
Alderman & Glidden seemed very genuine too but I never met any of them .

Yes: A very hard worker and gracious with his fans, that is a class act.
