Looks like I will be driving a Uhaul for a relative from Ohio to Phoenix Az next month.  After a visit with another relative in Flagstaff I will be driving home instead of flying home.  I plan to spend 5 days getting home and will get onto Rt66 as much as I can.  I plan to drive ALL of Rt 66 (what is left) in a couple of years with the wife, so this is a little teaser / recon trip.  I am looking for suggestions on good car-related stops.  I would like to acquire some nice signage for the man cave (neons and gas / oil signs) at a reasonable price.

That's a great idea, and from AZ to OH you can hit the best spots.

This app looks interesting.

There may be others.  I've used similar apps when I traveled Maui.  They really give you such more insight than the signs.

These apps locate where you are and talk/prompt when something is approaching.

Is RT 66 still a good tour? Seems to me I heard a lot of places are run down and it doesn't have the flavour it once did.

Route 66 goes through downtown Williams, 1/2 hour from Flagstaff in the wrong direction to Ohio. It has at least one Hot Rod themed Cafe, and a few Route 66 souvenir stores. As an aside the Bearizona Drive Thru wildlife park in Williams is a good little show.  Also if you are driving from Phoenix to Flagstaff, you can take the scenic route through Sedona, nothing to do with RT66 but it is nice drive.  Lots to see in New Mexico, but RT66 took more than one path through it over the years.  Your wife might enjoy the Santa Fe route on your future big trip. Enjoy the ride.

There are still some Rt 66 remnants left to see in and around Tucumcari, New Mexico. Old 66 ran through Tucumcar. Old Rail head town. There may be something left in Clines Corner and Santa Rosa. If you go South and a little east off I-40 to Fort Sumner you go visit Billy the Kids gravesite, museum etc.

My wife and I drove Route 66 from Oklahoma City to Flagstaff. Quite a few old towns that were once busy to see along the way. We found by getting off the interstate and take the old road gave us interesting places. Texola on the Okla/Texas line was interesting and a ghost town except for a few houses and the local bar. Glenrio on the Texas/New Mex. state line is another old town. Cuervo NM was an old ghost town with a church and several other deserted buildings on the south side of the interstate. On the other side of NM near Arizona line is a stop where there's a large cave with part of the town near that inspired the movie Cars. Also the Wigwam motel in Holbrook Az is a reminder of the Two Cones motel in Cars. Lots of interesting things to see if you take the time.

Rt66 runs right thru Tulsa, OK and there is a lot of interesting sites there (as well as other historic Tulsa stuff). This site has some info and pics to check out - https://www.tulsa66.org/map

My son (just turned 16, sophomore in high school) asked if we could drive the Cuda on route 66 as his high school graduation vacation.  --We told each of our son's that they can plan/choose what we do as a family vacation when they enter high school, as well as when they graduate high school.

It's partly what motivated me to get moving on the car now instead of waiting till we can build a proper shop to work on it in.   (I wanted to build a shop with heat, maybe AC, a lift, machine shop area, welding area, etc. but instead will be doing most of the work in the attached garage for now)

I've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there... :haha:
