Hey all, some may know I recently moved and fortunately now have a 3 car garage in soccer mom town so I am feeling pretty fortunate.  problem is I have more square footage and way less room since I emptied my storage unit and lost the 200 SF storage loft I built at the old place (not enough height for that here).  There are also a lot of very nice cabinets already installed, but not geared towards a "shop" - think more like closet organizers.

I had a large lower cabinet / work bench built in at the old place, and had 6 drawers filled with organizers for screws, hardware, electrical terminals etc etc, all organized in yellow plastic bins, holding smaller bins with all the screws and things, was really nice.

I am thinking about getting a roller tool box that could accommodate, but thought it is a good time to get new ideas.  I also have a TON of tools: hand tools (in a large Snap-On roll cab), and LOTS of power (more for construction) and air (automotive) tools.  Most of the electric power tools are bigger and in cases (sawzall, hammer drill etc) plus a portable table saw and 12" chop saw.  You get the point..

I have been considering getting rid of a lot of tools since I really dont have any home projects I plan on doing any time soon, and I have a tendency to buy a tool even if it is for a single use, and generally I buy a high quality one rather than generic and "justify" it because quality tools are better to work with and just last longer - not forever like my grandfathers aluminum Milwaukee drill with cloth wrapped power cord - but we all know the quality of a tool makes a difference (so I convince myself)

OK, I am droning on.... what are you all doing for creative solutions for storage and your shop utility?

I do not have a ton of floor space so need to get creative - power tools are all piled and stacked on top of each other in cabinets that are hard to get to and not deep enough - not functional at all

Perhaps some pics would stimulate ideas?

Perhaps a stainless steel or similar table that one or more rolling toolbox's could fit under.  I have mixed emotions on upper cabinets. If you do go with upper cabinets I've found you need something more than 12" deep and at least 36" wide. In theory I like the idea of rolling toolboxes/cabinets as you can reposition depending on your current work tasks.

One of the best things I got was a Rubbermaid corner unit.It has 4 shelves that are deep.Great place to store your assorted power tools and odd shaped items.

Everything... in my garage is on wheels.
Stacking plastic storage bins, on a platform with wheels...
Best item for sure is a steel workbench (on wheels) where the framework is a C shape. Legs roll under car, table hovers over trunk or hood depending on current working conditions.
Uprights are padded so when wheeled to car they softly stop on bumpers.
Also always lay a shipping blanket over car to mitigate paint damage from random item drops.

I like the cart!  I will put up some photos this weekend - I also have a lot of parts to store - 2 hoods, fenders doors etc..  starting to get overwhelming!

And the wife said a big fat NO WAY to putting anything in the house :o

do you have the room for a shed!  I put all my non car related and non essential tools in the shed in my back yard!  I now need a bigger shed.

:)) I'm planning on building a shed for the same purpose but hoping not to end up like the attached pic.

I WISH I had room for a shed - we live in suburbia - giant houses built on a postage stamp, often with with zero lot lines, which means your house is your neighbors fence...

W actually have a decent lot, but no usable space for a shed - that would solve a ton, but just no room.

Having everything on wheels is nice, easy to move things around and clean behind.
Any attic or crawlspace to take advantage of?
How tall is your garage? Can use ceiling storage if enough room.
