Back in the late 80's, I lived up in the Los Gatos Mountains.

Every September, the Tarantula's came out of the woodwork looking for a mate.

One day driving up my road, there was a big Tarantula.

I picked him up bare handed (gently) and brought him home.
Fed him Crickets and kept him for a week or so.

While I had him, I would let him crawl up my arm.
Once even on top to my head.

They're actually really gentle, mellow creatures.
Don't let their looks scare you.

We seriously have to have a thread about spiders?    Where is Alan?  "This is an ebody site, not a spider site!"

:unbelievable:
Drive it like you stole it . . . And they're CHASING you!

Ok, lets give this thread the boot....  (Yes this is recycled humor... Get over it, it was funny last time, there's probably still a chuckle to be had...)

Summer of 2001 had black widows about every 3 feet outside the back of my then new home. Decided to spray the perimeter with the bargain brand type spider, silver fish and ant hand pump insect poison that said it would last up to 6 months.
After very tired hands pumping a whole bottle around the house was hoping it would be true. To my surprise the claims were true. So spraying every year just before summer starts this has proven at least for me incredibly effective.  Now they even have one with a pull pressure operating pump making it way easier.

Five years ago I bought this

And one of these...

Strangely I rarely see any bugs other than ants....  Can't seem to stop ants... It's been my biggest battle, These days you'll see maybe a dozen a month in the summer when they are at their worst... When I started it was outta control, the Clarke pest control guy who couldn't stop them said our house was built on a huge colony... This bait was in place for less than eight hours..  All the black is ants....  The white is boric acid, the cotton is soaked in boric acid & sugar water.... The bait trap is about 5" in diameter....

When I was a kid my grandfather found a large black widow in his garage and managed to put it in one of those old Folger's coffee cans with the virtual air tight lid and put it on a shelf in his garage.  Several months later he saw the can and remembered he had put the BW in it and took off the lid.  To his surprise, although several times smaller, the BW was still alive. :o
