I have had batteries set on the concrete for a month without any discharging problems

Mopar had what they called the ballstud Hemi. There were 2 examples known to exist, 1 that Dick Landy sold to John Aruzza. John installed it in Tom Hoovers (sold) cuda cp. It was at Carlisle a few years ago.

Here is some information on the Ball stud and overhead cam engine.

How about a 396 Hemi ? My mother in law was dating an old funny car racer ( 66 Charger) from Scranton PA named George Whelan. He was famous locally in his day and has past away a few years ago but at dinner one day we got talking cars and racing and he told me he had a experimental 396 Hemi. I know he was connected with Chrysler at the time with the stories he told me. I said all you mean the 392 and he got very upset saying he knows what  a 392 was since he raced many of them. I thought because of his advanced age he just got mixed up but he was very matter of fact with me. Anybody have any info on a 396 Hemi ??

Yes: Mopar downsized the 426 because of unfair weight brakes dealt to them by NHRA in Pro Stock. They also ran a 404 in NASCAR back in 64 or 65, same reason.

:wrenching: Here is another one from back in the 80's or 90's this one was for the RB engine, Hemi heads a aftermarket company was producing them for the 383 and 440 engines. Can't remember the company or what happened with them and never got to see any HP numbers with the conversion...

I also remember that company. I believe they were called Stage IV Heads-not sure who offered them though but definitely remember seeing many adds in the Mopar Mags back in the 90's. I may have even send for one of there brochures.

Stage V Engineering made the conversion heads. From the mid 80s up until about the mid 90s when Mopar got into reproducing Hemi parts, they were a cost effective substitute and made more power in a  stockish configuration than an original 426.  They still exist and still make them and all the supporting hardware, FWIW. They also make custom race 426 heads and offer a special Millenium Head that is 2* angled they claim reduces the width of the Hemi while still flowing like a race head. http://www.stagev.com/

A late 90s oddity I bet most have forgotten about; a company named Covalt came out with a 32 valve head for the reproduction Hemi blocks being offered by Mopar. These were an entirely separate item from the factory DOHC experiments  of the mid 60s. I seem to recall they cast about a dozen  pairs and were taking pre-orders. Of course they did have a couple pairs finished up and installed to generate interest. Power from an otherwise stockish, street build was supposed up around 700ish and idled like stock, which back then was an ungodly claim. These guys are long gone.

Also back in the late 90s Chrysler made the Pro Stock Truck small block pented valve heads that eventually morphed into the Pro Stock Hemi engine used in the early 00s. You could buy all these parts right out of the Mopar Performance catalog.

Cen-Pen Machine shop is currently making small block Hemi heads. They  have a 408 conversion motor making 500 hp for $12k. Whether that worth it or not I'll leave that up to each of you. http://www.thenewhemi.com/

A place called Hammerheads is  making Hemi heads for GM LS and Ford engines. http://www.hammerheadperformanceengines.com/

Did anyone here or do you know someone who ever bought those Hemi heads and actually used them?
