Thanks headejm

Would this be a "California ONLY" thing  (emissions requirement) ?
The reason I ask, is that six pack carburetors come in both ECS and NON ECS models
SO . . . Are Calif made cars ECS, and all others "NON" ECS ?
Is one standard and the other an option?
Why the two different systems?

Yes California only in 70... In 71 it was 50 states....  70 non-ECS carbs have what at the time was considered a normal bowl vent that opens to atmosphere...

70 ECS carbs have a bowl vent tube that a hose connects to & the other end vents into the right valve cover breather...

In 71 all the Mopar carbs vented into the crankcase breather...

By 72 Mopar had gone to a charcoal canister like Chevy & Ford had been using... Turns out of you have a needle stick the fuel coming out the vent would wind up in the oil pan... Sometimes it would damage the bearings but also sometime the fuel in the crankcase would ignite blowing the oil pan & valve covers off.. Along with distorting the valley pan...
