Title: E-Body Broadcast Sheet Reference Library...Just scanned broadcast sheets please.
Post by: xs29j8 on February 21, 2017, 09:57:41 AM
Questions and decoding can be discussed in other threads, lets try to keep this thread purely for the images... in JPG, PNG, PDF, or similar widely used format...

An image size proportional to 8.50 : 11.00 is recommended, with 850 pixels by 1100 pixels or 1700 pixels by 2200 pixels probably working out best.

Watermarking or over writing a notation is a good idea to prevent the images from being used in scams on eBay & other markets...

***** I will go first with my 1970 Challenger T/A  *****, and I will post 2-3 photos of the car & a photo of the fender tag when possible...

not great pics, but it's what I have. I let my dad hold onto this one and who knows where it is.

this is for another early LA build /6 Barracuda that came in my back seat (@ 300 higher in #s than mine). proof that LA cars DID occasionally have a build sheet included .....  :ohyeah:

More great information for the gang, thanks. After looking at the posted sheets, I have a question maybe someone can answer. On line five, all the way to the right, the last three boxes have headers of 1--2--3. What are these codes for that is listed under the them. I have asked a few local guys, but it was a deer in the headlights look.  :dunno: :notsure: :help:

1 = master cylinder assembly - last 2-digits of a 7-digit assembly part number (has anyone seen a list of these part numbers?)
2 = broadcast sheet print hour - on a 24 hr. clock (00 = midnight, 06 = 6AM, 14 = 2PM, etc.)
3 = broadcast sheet print minute - on a 100 minute clock (10 = :06, 25 = :15, 80 = :48, etc.)

@6bblgt (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/6bblgt_211)  Can you test a theory I have.  All cars got a master cylinder, right?  But not all cars got a brake booster.  Could that 1st box that has been called Master Cylinder Assembly really be the Brake Booster code with the Master Cylinder attached?  Later on they started putting the 2 digit code on them with a little sticker, right?  Can you check some of your sheets and see if that 1st box is left blank if the sheet has nothing in the B51 box?  And if there is "1" in the B51 box then there should be a Brake Booster code up in the 1st box on that line five we're talking about.  You should see lots of "45"s and a few "42"s and Hemi's would be "46"?

Can you run that theory over some of your sheets and let me know what you think?     :fingerscrossed:

That is the way I see it Cody. Have a couple with power disc brakes and have "45" in box #1. I kinda figured that is what it was, but had no idea about the clock insertions.

***************************************

Looked at another, it is coded B11 and disc brakes, so manual disc brakes. It has 42 in Box #1. I tired to scan it, but it is such a light copy, it won't scan. Looks like it is from a Cuda, so light/faded, but not a Chally.

sorry I should've added a little more to the description - it is the master cylinder w/booster (if OPTIONED) assembly

It appears Hamtramck did not start coding this until October '69 - Box #1 is blank August & September
E-body (A,B,C body may be the same/different) no manual disc brakes on an E-body (B11 is drum brakes)
31 = manual drum brakes
42 = power drum brakes
?? = power drum brakes HEMI
45 = power disc brakes
46 = power disc brakes HEMI

the time stamp started mid-February at Hamtramck model year 1969

I'm going to post some paper work on two that I own. I consider both to be nice original cars when I got them. I'm the third owner of each and have info back to the original owners. Hopefully Dan will analyze and comment on his production date post.

First is an early 70 Barracuda. Original fender tag, broadcast sheet and window sticker. I have a few questions regarding the window stickers of both cars that I am posting.

What exactly does S.O. NO mean?

Why is there a BB in between the VIN?

What do the other numbers mean located by the S.O. NO?

As far as the Broadcast sheets, when exactly did Chrysler switch from a black and white sheet to a color sheet?

Thanks
Tom

Here is my second car. It's a 71 Cuda Convertible. The broadcast sheet remained under the passenger seat the whole time until I picked out what was left last month. So unfortunately it is a partial sheet.

I have a saved picture of a 71 Cuda convertible broadcast sheet with an SPD of the same date 5/20. I can email that to Dan for comparison if needed.

What exactly does S.O. NO mean?

Shipping Order Number
It's the Scheduled Production Date, Assembly Plant, Car Make, & Vehicle Order Number
(Thanks to Ola & Dan for helping with that!)

Chrysler had a sheet which was used for ordering cars, each sheet was numbered with a vehicle order number.
These numbered sheets were sent to dealerships all over the country (probably in pads of 25 sheets or maybe 50 sheets) to be used as needed.
Since everyone starts with a different preprinted number, and uses them at a different speed, there's no correlation between VON and build date.  With enough data though, it should be able to be used for knowing which dealership your car sold new at.  Since the VON is on the fender tag, this could be very helpful for people who don't have any paperwork or history for their car, potentially leading them to documentation if the original dealership still has any.

Anyway, these vehicle orders were sent to Chrysler central and that's where VIN numbers were assigned, and all the orders that came in were arranged into groups of similar cars and assigned a Scheduled Production Date.
Cars were not built in VIN order.

I don't know off the top of my head, but there should be a revision date printed on each sheet.  That's roughly when that sheet style started being used.

Each car had a broadcast sheet printed in several different departments of the assembly line.  Every car had multiple sheets, but some departments were able to leave the sheet in the car or attached to the part they built instead of walking over to the trash can and throwing it away like they were supposed to.  LA had a more strict trash policy, so we see less sheets from that plant.
Each printer on the assembly line could be full of older revision sheets or newer revision sheets, so there isn't a firm date for the changeover.
Some 1969 sheets were used to build 1970 cars, but they were used in a department where the build sheet boxes lined up the same as 1970.  The rest of the sheet didn't line up with the boxes, but that department didn't need to read the rest of the sheet.

S.O. NO. = has historically been in the factory documents as "Shipping Order Number"

BB = represents the assembly plant and model designator.
...BB = Hamtramck Barracuda
...BJ = Hamtramck Challenger
...EB = Los Angeles Barracuda
...EJ = Los Angeles Challenger

The 5 digits are the dealer code. The 2 digits are the region code.

Scheduled Production Date (SPD)
-
Assembly Plant
Car Make
-
Vehicle Order Number (VON)

@sdweatherman (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/sdweatherman_312)  I don't think the car is around.  The sheet came out of some seats that were bought from a guy that parted out a bunch of cars 30+ years ago.  But that doesn't mean it was the correct sheet for the car it came out of.  So maybe there's still a change it's still around.   :notsure:

@manycj (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/manycj_314) - it looks like the car was built on schedule - "In Plant/In Process" on Tuesday 2/24/70 - VERY EARLY in the "Panther Pink" world

if you don't think your car is anything special, can we agree your restoration is AWESOME!!  :banana:

it was on eBay somewhere around Feb. 2014

I remember that one. I hope they kept it original, but I'm guessing whoever bought it will turn it into another v8 clone. those 198's are pretty rare now

A quick update on the Build Sheet decoder.  Today we ran the very first Build Sheet through the decoder!!!!!  :banana:  It worked fantastic!!!!!!!!!!   :woohoo:   We have a few minor programming tweaks to work on and how it prints the report, but the decoder itself works wonderful.  Hope to have a beta version soon and I'll be asking for everyone here to help test it before we go live to the public.

I bought the car last January after it sat since 2003. It's no longer moving with the same drive train but I'll try to put back some of the features. It had no fender tag so I was kinda sad about that. However, today I found the broadcast sheet behind the rear seat springs!!

@6bblgt (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/6bblgt_211) I have a dumb question on this. Did Challengers and Barracudas roll down the same lines and did they share in the sequence numbering of the VINs?  If so, then would my Challenger at 177116 with a SPD of 11/4/69 have been running late also?

Here is a partial I found in the seats I got with my '74 Cuda - its not for my car - mine was originally white inside - seats are black - if this is of interest to someone let me know. It is real hard to read - but I read the VIN as BH23G4B237455

Additional Sheet that came with my 70 convert.

K5 Challenger Convert with a white top and k5 interior.  It must have rode the line the same day as mine.  Has the same build date too!  Pretty neat find.

If the original owner is out there somewhere i am more than happy to provide it.  Otherwise I will send it to Dave.

Cody, are all of those broadcast sheets from known cars? Or are some or all of them for cars not accounted for?  My TA sheet is m.i.a.  serial number is jh23job276759  fy1 build date of 03-13-70.  Thanks!  This site is the best!!

Two "not mine" broadcast sheets in my car from passenger and rear seats, Nov 1969 build. Still hopeful mine will show up some day.

180406, is an interesting "Corp Lease (Executive)" car.

70 V code Challenger
My car is only three cars from yours. mine has 121057. Also a V-code. It is supposed to be one of several cars from Mr. Norms. He ordered a series of Challenger with VIN from 044 to 083. I recently got Email about this from Larry Weiner who has the Mr.Norm archive. It was really nice to see your build sheet and sticker here. Unfortunately I haven't found the build sheet for my car yet.

@Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1)
I'm curious too, my Challenger did not have a build sheet in it when I got it (almost 40 years ago). Would be great if there was a searchable list of found/unclaimed documentation.

PS: I would love to "tip" the admins that keep the forum going and so great but don't see any info about donations, etc. Is there a link to help out financially for the site?
