I'm having trouble maintaining a leak-proof seal on my Dana 60 differential cover gasket. It has started to seep from the bottom of the cover. I'm using the original cover, which has been confirmed to not be bowed or damaged.
I'd like to hear from others who have done this in the past. What gaskets and/or sealers have you used to attach the cover to the differential housing where it has not leaked? What was your process?

Yes: The black silicone doesn't show up, use it on both sides like CP says. Are you sure the pinion seal isn't leaking and running down the housing?
It's definitely not the pinion seal (thankfully).
Do you guys use a torque spec, or just hand tighten the bolts that hold the cover on?
I had same problem, but with chrome cover, hitting it with 40 grit belt sander and RTV on both sides of gasket fixed the problem.
Make sure the pan is flat. Scuff or sand off the chrome on the sealing surface. Don't bother with RTV silicone. All it takes is little gear oil to seep from the housing on the seal surface as the cover goes on and you have a leak. Use Permatex "The Right Stuff". Its more expensive than the RTV but this stuff just plain works. No gasket necessary.

I've just ordered a can of "Right Stuff" based on everyone's review in this thread.
I used this gasket when I installed a new polished stainless cover on my Dana 60 with great results and no goop to ooze out or scrape off if I want to remove the cover.

A little more money but if you add the price of a good gasket sealer it's pretty close in price.
Right Stuff is a great product too & No gasket needed just might be difficult to remove it later on !!
GrandpaKevin - question on your application that you used the Lube Locker gasket. Is the cover on your Dana have the flat mounting surface, or does it have the raised ribs in-between the bolt holes? See pic below.
My cover has the raised ribs in-between the bolt holes (not flat all the way around) which identifies the cover as one that uses a gasket, and I'm curious how well the Lube Locker gasket works on the slot type cover.
