Finally my metal guy Keith Sim has finally got his new shop up and running after a big move this Summer....
No better way to christen it then with a rusty convertible Mopar !
Nice! Did he downsize???
:lookatthat: Looking forward to seeing more of his work!

No the shop is actually bigger. He owned an industrial unit with condo fees etc here in Gerogetown...sold that and his house and moved out to Gorrie ON and bought a house with a shop on the property :clapping:

Wow that is a hell of a move....yes I had to google Gorrie! Sounds like a dream set up though!
Yup: I always thought I would do that too, never happened though.
Those quarter panel repairs are a " work of art"

Looks like you will see a lot of his work to get those quarter panels looking good again.

Put it this way.....He bought an acre of land, real nice bungalow home with a nice shop in Gorrie, for the exact same price he sold his 900 sq/ft industrial unit for in Georgetown. $350K. :o Then whatever he sold his G-town home for, is just money in the bank :bigmoney:

Think we might just replace the quarters...
I assume the details on this car are somewhere ... but might as well share them here . . . . Color, Engine, details?

Car is an original 318 3spd Barracuda. Originally purple, with white interior.
It's being restored back to stock appearing except a 340 4spd.

When it comes time to do the quarters, please include details on how you modify the hardtop quarters to fit.
Allan, always enjoy checking out your restoration process on your web site!

He just cuts the top off and puts in a step flange....Here's Challenger ones he did last year.....Cuda one are easier...
Keith sounds like a cool guy to hang around just to learn from. I admire his skills! Not many left like that these days! Wish I was closer I'd go work with him for free just to learn.

Yea..he's a great guy.....Have you ever watched the videos with him in them ? This one has a nice quarter panel patch fabrication...

Thanks Alan but I would still appreciate process pics of the conversion of the Cuda quarters if you can manage this. How is the rolled/formed downward section at the quarter window addressed -
hardtop used as is? Area in question is circled.
Here are some pictures from Ken's site showing the topside of the end detail near the quarter window. Based on the e-coat still in place, then perhaps the area I circled is same for both hardtop and vert quarters.
Sorry if I am derailing your thread some.
Yup, I've seen Ken's before, we installed a set last year on a 71 Cuda....Ken does nice work.
Gorrie isn't very far from me.

Have you ever heard of "Pentastic" right on #89 ? They're sort of a used car place that deals in classics as well.....Keith is right across the street pretty much.
Thanks for the positive comments on the convertible quarters! Between Cuda And Challenger I have made over 75 sets to date. The Challenger quarters are the most difficult to get correct especially where the sail pane ties into the quarter. This is where the trim channel intersects. At that point if its made wrong the trim will not fir properly. It's taken me years to get it right. If you need something related to convertible I can help you out.

No I haven't Alan. I'll have to go for a drive some day.

Good stuff!

Looked it up on google maps. looks like highway #87.
Yes. Provincial highway 89 ends at Harriston (Minto) and becomes county road 87.
With my main metal guy, Keith Sim now 1 1/2 hours away, I admit I don't get up there as much as I would like....in the past we used to see each other 2-3 times every week....
Today I brought him some more parts of the puzzle and see that he's started the first step....
Step 1: Remove the parts you won't be using.... :haha:
...then fabricate the parts you do want to use....here you see he's reconstructed about two feet of the driver's side frame rail and both ends of the transmission cross member....next comes the door posts and fitting the new firewall....
More pictures of the complete restoration are on my website: http://www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com/FC7RAG.html
that is some serious weight reduction. That car is gonna fly!
WOW that is way beyond my talents . . . :drunk:
Cool stuff!
We all have our strengths, that's why I let my metal guy take care of the metal work...
Wow talk about going down to the literal bones and beyond.
This guy has mad skills.
this gives me hope that I will be able to save my car, if I ever get to the point of redoing the body and it turns out BAD!
How old is Keith? I hope he is not planning to retire anytime soon!

Geez!! I must be an idiot for going all in on this car :'(
Let's hope he can get this thing back together
Good luck! Alan is getting ready to put my car back together.
So you are basically saying that Alan doesn't know what he is doing.

As I've said, I don't do the metal work, my metal guy Keith Sim does it, and YES I believe there is skill in properly dismantling a car to this degree PROPERLY :alan2cents:
That's true Alan. Some people do more damage in the tear down than they realize.
Looks like he really is good with metal work and it is not for everyone.
Alan, I remember watching that episode of LMC. I stood in front of my tv just enthralled - even the reruns. :takealook:
A local body man who has worked on my cars in the past once remarked "Its gotta look ugly before it can look pretty." So true
Beautiful work, sir.
Way beyond my skill set. Some exceptional work.
