Title: Needing date code information for a friends late build 1970 Barracuda
Post by: 198D13 on April 11, 2022, 10:51:28 AM
The car has an SPD of July 1970, but the original motor is dated September of 1969! What would be an acceptable date for the distributor and the exhaust manifolds for this car? The car is an "N" code vehicle.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

I assume the "Sept '69" date is the one cast into the side of the block? The actual date the engine was assembled at the Trenton Engine Plant is stamped in a code under the starter "extension" of the block. The code will be something like "T383????12345" with the four digits (????) immediately after the displacement (383) being the 10,000 day calendar date for when the engine was actually assembled. Get that 4-digit date code, cross-reference it to a 10,000 day calendar and it will give you the date such as "3230" which is equivalent to June 1st, 1970. From what I have read, engine parts are typically date coded within 90 days of the engine assembly date.
