I recently bought a 1971 Cuda 440 6bbl car. It's in survivor condition, but not currently driveable. I'm trying to decide should I get it running and drive it as is, or restore it. Here's the kicker,,,, no fender tag or build sheet. Where is the best place to see if someone has mine, or a vin close to mine (I hear close vins were sometimes made the same). Any help at all or tips on what it came with from the factory will be appreciated. Also looking for the original motor and transmission, guy I bought it from bought it new and put a 68 hemi in it. vin is BS23VIB237241
Welcome from Colorado
closely built cars have no relation to each other aside from running down the assembly line together.
Sounds like a cool car. At least it still has it's vin.
If you purchased it from the original owner you will probably have to harass him to get that fender tag back.
Why no tag or build sheet?
Welcome to the site
I agree with similar VINs , I Know of a 318 hardtop & A 440 4spd vert with sequential vins
Have you looked in all the typical locations for the build sheet?
Has the car been taken apart in it's life?
What color?
The original owner passed and we bought it from the family. We searched everywhere for the tag and build sheet with no luck. It has less than 8,000 miles on it, he raced it, put a hemi in it and went straight and fast! It still has the original paint, True Blue Metallic. It's heartbreaking to have a car in this condition and not know how it exactly came from the factory. He took several "unneeded" parts off the car for weight to race. I'm guessing that's why the tag is gone. The back seat was out (I have that at least) and if the build sheet was there it's gone now. I have looked everywhere, except the headliner.
Did you look behind the plastic of the front seats?
If it is in true survivor condition most of the options will be obvious but I understand some parts were removed for racing. Check all the e-body registries and Hamtrank historical as maybe someone has dealer info or a build sheet that got stuck in another car on the line.

If you do decide to restore it takes lot`s of before pics so in case you never find the tag or sheet you can prove most of how the car came from the factory.
Thanks everyone for your input and advise. I have looked all over the car, just not in the headliner or on top of the gas tank yet. Galen Glover is back at it again and I called Diane. Sadly, they have the info before mine, but not mine. The one before mine was a convertible.
:welcome: to the site. Sounds like a very cool car you have! :cooldance:
That really sounds like a great car and story. I hope you can find some history.
Welcome from Colorado! I'm up north in Erie.
I wouldn't waste a call to Govier. Document what you have now really well photographically, put ads on sites like this one looking for the build sheet and tag and enjoy what you have even if you don't find them. Barry Washington is a good resource to find sheets and browse the Moparts lost and Found section as well.
Sorry can't help but :welcome: from Sylmar, CA
