Title: Dakota Digital gauges
Post by: gumby on February 06, 2018, 02:40:03 PM
Just ordered a set. http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=1027/category_id=679/mode=prod/prd1027.htm

Will be sent in 3-4 weeks.I didn't like the color combos, so I special ordered. I wanted black face gauges, with blue background light, and a RED pointer.
(unfortunately white during the day, but RED at night!)

The person that I talked to was VERY knowledgeable, and addressed my concerns promptly!
Said that no one had wanted that option before, was able to get it done for me!

WoW! GREAT customer service! Had to pay an extra few bux, not much. VERY Helpful! - even gave me tips on using it with HellCrate engine.
I was extremely impressed!

Can't wait to see the gauges!

Still cheaper than sending my gauges out for rebuild, and modern. Pretty close to stock look? I guess we will see.

I was impressed, though.

VERY COOL PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH! that's all.

Never thought much about the needles not being red. I was not to worried about that when I ordered mine for my G3 swap in my 74 challenger. I just got mine Friday and here is a picture. Hope to put them in in the next few weeks. Please post a picture for us to check them out.

I love how they printed yours and the orange needles, why ALL of the E Body ones aren't done like that is beyond me :drunk:

I am going to eventually buy a DD gauge cluster and when I do I will ask for the Crash mod. I believe he said it cost an extra two bills.

Definitely the way to go if you have a rallye cluster.

Looks great.  Should of passed on restoring my gauges and bought a set of these.  I still like the factory rallye gauges if you have a set, but for 1k all new gauges, good deal.  Does you use your original wood grain cover and your original plastic cover?

Yes it's a direct bolt in, no mods required as such, I did have to relieve the back side of the bezel I purchased but it was a repop so I can't speak for an OEM unit

What do people think of this render I had Dakota draw up? Trying to get the clock a little closer to OEM, but they say they can only use white needles on the clock.

I didn't realize they had the ability to do a quad gauge similar to original. Looks very nice amthoma.
And welcome to the site.          You aren't all that far from me. Blaine is just north of the twin cities?

Love the rendering of the Dakota Digital in the rallye set up!  If they were able to have the standard DD offering look more like the rallye gauge set up, I would be in!  To fully restore a rallye cluster you're looking at a grand if things need to be repainted, cleaned and calibrated.  You could buy the DD set up and sell the OE rallye cluster and almost net even.

It would be a perfect mod for the 72-74 crowd, as these tend to bring more money modified than restored stock.

Definitely the best rendering yet to OEM but the original Dakota setup seems more practical as far as reading visibility.
Lack of clock is normally no big deal in that now-a-days mobile phones and aftermarket radios have one built in.
Never-the -less your rendering is far superior to OEM while still keeping it looking original.

What is the LCD screen below the speedo?  It reads 12:00 which makes me think clock.... If you have a digital clock IMO I'd loose the clock in the fourth pod & do double gauges...

The digital readout can show various data, and just like the look of the clock. My car had the standard dash and is going to be more along the restomod path so was looking for something a little different, but still close to stock. Just haven't liked the look of most of the custom dashes I have seen, but this seems to fit the bill.

Here is the new render I just received.

THANK YOU AMTHOMA! Just recieved my new gauges from Dakota Digital this morning.
They look exactly like the rendering amthoma showed.

They are OUTSTANDING! Very nice! All modern, yet pay homage to the originals.
Words cannot describe... I'll try and get a pic, maybe tomorrow? I don't have the capability right now.

WoW! Way better than sending old gauges out for a rebuild. GPS, accelerometer, everything. VERY NICE!

DD has hit a HOME RUN outta the PARK with these gauges! wow, just... - WOW!

JUst wondering if you have a pic yet? I still haven't pulled the trigger as my car is a ways from reassembly.

Sorry buddy, I do not have a pic. At this time I have no way of providing a pic.

Rest assured, the real deal is so effing unbelievable, worth every penny, cool.

I cannot stress how cool this gauge setup is. It would not have been possible without your help.

I kept calling and talking and changing, and then you finally submitted the template for the final vision. THANK YOU!

The ONLY thing, is that the clock hands are white, not red. NO BIG DEAL to me.

The rest, is perfection. It is truly beautiful, a work of art.

I had ordered a set, then kept changing depending on your designs. They were so happy? (l0l) to work with me, with all of the
changes. They never said a word. They just delivered. Everything is to perfect scale. Everything looks "old school"
It's all modern, yet retro. It's as close to the old gauges that you are ever going to get.

It IS PERFECT! you will NOT be disapointed.

My phone is an old LG slider with a broken USB port. I can't take pics. sorry. Can take pics but can't transfer them.

All I can say, it was cheaper - same price - than sending out my old gauges. MUCH nicer. Old school vibe.

They are SO BAD A$$. that's all.

I would even bet that those who aren't in the know - and several that are, would not even realize that these aren't the real MOPAR deal.
They are THAT cool. and SPOT on. No chevy guy would know, anyway, lol.

You are either one truly satisfied customer or secretly work for Dakota Gauges.  No seriously, I am really happy they worked out.  Yes we want pics.
Title: Re: Dakota Digital gauges
Post by: gumby on May 27, 2018, 12:41:43 AM
after seeing all the other alternatives out there, I was disapointed. to say the least.

it took awhile for them to deliver - but, I kept making changes.

Everything is way better than I could have hoped for.

Yes, the speedo goes to 160, Yes the tach isn't FACTORY correct ( but it is close, and the colors match the originals, Yes, the four independant gauges don't have a cover, and you can see the
4 points "hubs" of the needles, but it's all black. Yes, the clock does not have red needles. None of these were a deal breaker for me.

They customize. If you want different, ask and they will deliver. It may cost more. I probably made 3 or 4 changes. Maybe 5, lol. Mid-stream.

Nit picky BS. The gauges look exactly as the pics shown above. It is as close as you are going to get with modern gauges. It looks SPOT ON, to me.

And it was cheaper than sending my old gauges out to get re-built, and has all of the modern features one could want. (gps, etc) WIN-WIN situation. For me, anyway.

Around $1600. Worth every penny to me. Came with a wiring harness, HOLY SCHNIIKE! ALL the wiring! OMG! The AEROMOTIVE tank and pump, everything! WIRING! lol.
I hate wiring.
but I paid extra for an interface module. To hook up with HellCat computer. (MORE WRING!) lol.

It's all good. Call them, e-mail them. I'm sure they took pictures. I'm a happy camper!

They really are outstanding, very high quality. NOT cheapo junk, these are VERY NICE HIGH QUALITY that you can see, and FEEL gauges.
It's the entire cluster. Metal. HIGH QUALITY. Worth every penny! I can't stress how high quality this gauge cluster is.

Dakota Digital is the real deal. No cheapo crap from them. Everything is professional. Supreme quality. You get what you pay for.

You get your monies worth. VERY happy.

For those of you that have purchased the DD gauges, did you purchase the dash dimmer switch? According to their web site you have to use their switch. Does anyone have a pic of it installed in a rally dash? This is the only thing holding me back from buying the gauge cluster as they say the stock switch will not work. Any feedback is appreciated...

I did but don't use it as you can program day and night backlight illumination through the two programming buttons, I did install the dimmer however I modified the dimmer shaft to take the Mopar dimmer knob, bottom line you don't need it to be honest

Thanks Crash...I guess I was really wondering about the look, and whether the original knob could be made to work with their switch. I will have stock wiper and headlight switches and didn't want the dimmer switch to look out of place.

Short answer is yes you can alter the DD dimmer shaft to suit the Mopar dimmer knob

Well for those of you thinking about purchasing some of these, you will now need a bigger wallet. I have been wanting to buy these and ended up dragging my feet too long. They now cost $1495 for the rally set. That's right, the price went up $500. Don't know when or why. I can only guess the reason is they are now offering the non rally standard cluster for $995. That is what the rally cluster cost just a month or 2 ago when I last checked. The old adage, you snooze you lose, certainly applies here...:headbang:

Well I stand corrected. After going back and looking again, they still have the rally cluster for $995. For $1495 they are offering a newer updated version with more bells and whistles. My mistake for not looking at the site a little closer... :Thud:

I went with their non-rallye instrumentation... I got the Holley Sniper integration box as well.. Should make for a really clean wiring setup if everything works as advertised.
