Title: '73 Cuda Kat
Post by: 303 Mopar on July 14, 2017, 07:02:28 AM
After 7 years @CudaKat (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cudakat_79) is starting the restoration of his second '73 Cuda.  Back in May of 2010 he picked up a '73 Cuda out of Texas.  He was looking for a Rallye Red 4 spd Cuda and found the ad off of Craigslist for $3200 with no engine or transmission.  It's 340 4 spd car with a 3.55 SG, FE5 with white interior and vinyl top.

Two weeks later, on Amazon (never thought of looking there), he picked up a totaled 2010 SRT Challenger from a drunk driving accident.  Everything was totaled but the 6.1 Hemi and NAG trans were still in great shape with only 3200 miles on it.

With the help of @Sleepychallenger (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/sleepychallenger_80) we stripped everything off the Cuda, mounted the RMS k-member and test fitted the 6.1.  We also have the seats out of a Hyundai Tiburon.  I got the idea from @Brads70 (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/brads70_12), found them in a junk yard in Colorado Springs to put in my '71 Challenger but sold it.  Then @Moparman82 (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/moparman82_40) bought them so they went to Nebraska, but he also sold his car before he put them in.  So @CudaKat (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cudakat_79) bought them and they are now back in Colorado.   :crazytalk: :looney:

We picked up a rotisserie and pushed it a few doors down to the body shop this week.  The quarters were so bad it was not worth blasting them, they just cut them off.  All of this means a big order with @MoparDave (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/mopardave_10)!   :takemymoney:

More progress as the body is starting to come together. And yes, it was that bad.

We also added the US car tool rad support, and ended up just cutting off the old one. The last pic is the US car tool subframe connector to show you how bad the gaps are and the work it will require to grind down so it fits.

Seeing an E-Body on a rotisserie really gets my heart pumping.   :inlove:  It's like the start of a great new relationship.  You are both going to learn a lot about each other and spend a lot of time together.... and in the end it will be something beautiful.

Body is coming along nicely with the doors, engine bay and quarters now done too.  I'm trying to talk @CudaKat (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cudakat_79) into having the whole car painted now instead of just the engine bay.  However, he just "sh*t the bed" when he placed his order for all of the interior from @MoparDave (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/mopardave_10).  Just FYI, Dave just made his monthly AND quarterly quota.   :takemymoney:

It's all fun. When the engine starts in the car it goes from being a bunch of parts to an actual car for me. Getting everything welded up is exciting and paint is too. Having the bodywork done should be exciting but I find at that point I am just tired of it and it doesn't feel fun, fresh paint brings back the happy feelings.

Not a lot of progress on the Cuda recently because Gerald is waiting for his outbuilding to be built. Once it is finished, we will move the Cuda and all the parts to the building and finish the assembly in there where there is more room. The outbuilding is coming along nicely!

Swapped cars and even had time to grab breakfast before Josh had to head home.

Went down to the Springs and took my ole man for a ride around Widefield and Fountain on the new drive train.
While I was there my nephews got to relish in the coolness.   I'm teaching the next generation.

@303 Mopar (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/303-mopar_7) & @CudaKat (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cudakat_79) Do you mind me asking who did the paint on the Cuda? Since I'm from Denver metro also I'd be interested since it seemed like you weren't in paint jail too long? If you don't want to post here you can PM me also.

Thanks, Wes

Finances being what they are have delayed the finish of the CudaKat. The shell was still on the rotisserie and taking up valuable space in the shop, so we assembled the suspension and moved it to the back of the outbuilding for a while. We hope to pick this back up in the winter.

At least you got some shop space back

Now that car in the back of the garage with a little added dust is exactly how I like to buy them.

Moved the '73 out of the back of the shop and on a lift to continue assembly. First item was apply undercoating because this ain't no trailer queen.
