Title: 1974 Steering Column Rebuild
Post by: mopar1 on June 28, 2023, 11:54:50 AM
I am getting ready to rebuild the column in my 1974 'Cuda and when searching for parts for it, specifically bearings, I see applications listed for 70-73, but nothing on 74.  @Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1) , I've watched your restoration series on columns and it was quite informative.  Do you have any tips for what to do on a 74 column for those parts? I don't want to disassemble it until I have the necessary repair parts in hand, just in case something is damaged or crumbles apart during disassembly.

I've seen this bearing recommended over on the A-body forum

When I rebuilt the steering column on my manual floor shift '70 'Cuda I installed one of these ER16 flange bearing in the bottom of the steering column and it greatly reduced/eliminated the slop in  the steering as well as in the steering column/wheel.  I highly recommend it and I believe this bearing is cheaper than the original plastic parts so it's a win-win.  If I read this thread correctly, he made this modification on a '74 column.  Good luck! :bigthumb:

Wouldn't your column serve as the best reference as to what part it needs ? I think 74 is unique isn't it ?
