Title: Fuel sender locking ring tool
Post by: Ornamental on June 06, 2017, 04:46:05 AM
I've tried to find a tool for the fuel sender locking ring, but I only find tools for newer models.
Does anyone know if a suitable tool exists, beside a big flat screwdriver?

It may be a little excessive to buy a tool that hardly will be used, but what I really want to buy is peace of mind, to know that the locking ring is torqued evenly.

I use a large, flat screwdriver and alternate hitting it top and then bottom. You knock them in until the tang hits and it can't rotate anymore. The new lock rings that come with the tanks are a bit thin so re-use the original if you can.

:iagree:  I just use a screw driver.  But  one Slotts posted (which I think is the same one Classic sells) will work:

The only sale I can find for Classic right now is "UPA17 and get up to 20% OFF* orders over $249".  You might try
@MoparDave (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/mopardave_10)  and see what he has in stock.  Good luck @Ornamental (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/ornamental_461)  and welcome  :welcome:  to our wonderful site.

Thank you Sheldon!  :bigthumb:

That's what I did recently.
I were replacing the fuel line, and as I was removing the old rubber hose from the fuel sending unit, I suddenly had the whole unit coming loose from the tank.
Thankfully the tank was less than half full, so no gas shower for me.
The fuel sending unit will be replaced, so when I do, I want to use the proper tool for the job for my own peace of mind, that's worth 20USD plus shipping and tax to me.
I didn't know about the new locking rings being thin, so I'll definitely make sure to re-use the old one if I replace the tank later.

If you lived closer I'd mail mine to you to borrow but being so far apart it would be cheaper to just buy one.

Appreciated Brads70!

At least I'll be able to help out other ebody people in my area if they should happen to need it.
