I picked up a 71 Barracuda roller "tree find" a couple of years ago. It's going to need some work. I completed the initial tear down process. Currently building jig/table. The plan is to keep it period correct with cool options.
Not new to the Mopar world. My first car, which I still have, is an original 69 Charger RT that I bought at Carlisle '84.
I kike the jig, ware did you get the spec's from?
Looks great. I'm looking forward to your project updates. Not bad for a "tree" find!
Wes
Fun times.... I so enjoy these type of projects!
Looks like a good project.
Do you still have the tags?
How was it equipped originally?
That looks like a pretty decent start actually.
It has a fender tag. I was able to find the broadcast sheet. Actually, I found two. The numbers match up with the body. It's gonna need some sheet metal.
As for the jig, started with a datum line diagram. Reviewed several designs. Like the idea of using a creeper if needed. Standard jack stands have 24" lift. Built it to 18" to follow the datum line diagram(x-6) center. Corner levelers from a big box store plumbing and hardware dept. To roll the table under the car, built some custom stands. Next, I need to attach the car to the table.
On the table.
Here's some info on the Barracuda.
F3 - Sherwood Green
V1 - Vinyl Top
C16 - Console
C55 - Bucket Seats
B41 - Disk Brakes
G37 - Dual Racing Mirrors
L34 - Road Lights
R35 - AM/FM Radio
S13 - H.D. Suspension with Sway Bar
Air Conditioning
A couple of good options there.
Looks like a decent start! Should turn out to be a cool car. I'm a fan of Sherwood Green.
:iagree: Its a beautiful color that people seem to either hate or love. Im a lover of it.
Back on the Barracuda. Media blasted and is now in PPG Epoxy Primer. Starting the sheetmetal repair. Removed the full floor. Finding more rust after going to bare metal. Looks like the Front Left Frame Rail has issues.
Happy to see pictures again. Dont give up!!!
Working on the back half and more work. Looks like the left rear frame rail may need to be replaced. Not sure what to do with the rear upper shock tower? The left shock tower doesn't look good, but the rest of the shock tower and right shock hole looks good.
Those holes are beat up!
L34 - Road Lights
R35 - AM/FM Radio
S13 - H.D. Suspension with Sway Bar
pretty different options for a BH car. Someone definitely checked those on the list.
My AMD Left Rear Frame Rail arrived. Built a halo over the car and a bar to hold up the upper shock tower crossmember. Hacking away.
Wow...very nice work happening here, I love that frame cart
That shouldn't go anywhere. :bigthumb:
Just found this tread. Looking forward to viewing your progress. :wrenching: Great frame cart!
Dry fit the left rear frame, upper shock tower crossmember, rear crossmember, trunk floor, and tail panel.
That's really impressive
Gotta be exciting turning the corner and start stapling it back together.
Hanging left quarter, outer wheel house and trunk floor extension.
Passenger side dry fit. Also cut back the halo and laid the deck lid. Gaps look good. Moving toward the front of the car. Rockers and rear footwells need attention.
Waiting on bolts for the rear valence. Moving toward the front of the car.
Wow that setup and depth you have stepped into is impressive.
Great job :australia:
Some serious repairs but by the looks of things you have under control great job
That is some very impressive repairs.
Keep the updates coming.
Outer rocker panel for both left and right. Dry fit right now. Next would be repairing the door hinges and the door skinning.
Keep up the good work :australia:
Ordered a door hinge rebuild kit. The bottom hinge shows out of round, thus a lot of play.
I checked the weight of the Drivers Door and I came up with 90 lbs. So how do I lift and keep the door still so I can attach both hinges and adjust the door gap.
Checking the door to quarter gap. Currently the outer rockers are clamped in and the outer cowl side hinge panel is roached.
Decided to media blast the Rallye hood. The top looks ok. Some areas will need filler. The inner structure is another matter. Looks like the area around the hood latch area could use some work. Not sure if anyone has done work on the inner structure? As a backup, I picked up a Shaker hood from Carlisle.
Moving on replacing the left front frame rail, shock tower, and inner fender. Would be nice if I could weld all three parts together while out of the car. I'm guessing safer one piece at a time. Currently building additional brackets so the new frame rail drops in perfectly. I noticed the k member bolt threads don't look good, so I went ahead and ordered new ones from Roseville. I used the promo code. Every bit helps with the restoration.
Noticed I haven't updated the project for a while. Removed the Left front frame rail, inner fender and shock tower. Then removed outer cowl side hinge panel on both sides. Also, the upper cowl and firewall have been removed. Doing some front window channel repair.
Wow , pretty intensive metal replacement going on. Sure will be sweet when your done! Nice knowing for sure what you have on every square inch of the car! I admire your workmanship! Nice job! :bravo:
Doing some window channel patch repair.
Currently working on the firewall, upper cowl, front frame rail, shock tower, and inner fender.
Media blasted the Kmember and sprayed it with dp90lf. Since I'm replacing the front left frame rail, planning to use the Kmember to align both front rails.
Bolted on the K member to the front frame rails. The front left frame rail was replaced, so making sure everything lines up.
Very impressive fabrication skills. I'm jealous. Keep up the good work!

:iagree: That's some serious work being done very well!
Just beautiful work and so skill full . I could not imagine the man hours and cost for some one else to do this amount of work :australia:
Tried Herbs Adhesion Promoter and Metallic Green (1200). I'm happy with the results considering the condition of the interior.
Decided to pull the Barracuda out the back garage. Been working on fitment the last few days. I've got new door skins for both side that I need to install. Decided to use sheet metal screws.
Working on the passenger door skin. The old door skin shows the factory sound deadener. Using Resto Ricks sound deadener on the new skins. What's better than bag and tag? Door shell is in dp90lf primer mode. Next working on floor.
Looking at all those door parts brings back my nightmares about doing what you are currently doing. :crying: :looney:
Been a while but still in the sheet metal phase. Its raining today in the Delmarva so good time for a break and update. Since last update, installed inner fender brackets, went with new repo hood hinges and shaker hood, installed cowl side hinge panels, full floor and both footwells. Before installing the outer rockers, I installed a chrome moly round tube to the inner rocker between the front and rear frame rail. Skinned both doors. Went with new repo door hinges from AMD. Installed the outer rockers. Installed rear frame rail, trunk floor, rear crossmember extensions and rear crossmember. Next will be the tail light panel.
I was able to repurpose the old seat brackets under the floor. Plug welded floor and footwells . Before removing old floor, I stacked blocks of wood under the floor/rear step well so when I install the new floor, I'll have an accurate rear floor height.
Removed the old seat covers and prime and paint. The seat tracks were badly rusted but I was able to blast it greased and working.
Shaker fitment
Skinned both doors.
After installing the frame rails, I used the following product.
Ordered chrome moly steel from a chassis shop in NC. Cope cut and some time fitting.
Had to replace the door jamb lock pillar.
Outer wheel houses installed.
Installed the trunk floor brace.
Trunk floor installed.
Installed the rear crossmember and extensions. Next will be the tail light panel.
Looks like you have been staying busy. Very nice work!
Looks great!
few questions.
Is the gold stuff weld through primer?
On post 57, I can't make out the chromoly bars that are tacked between the rails.
Any chance of some better pictures of what you did there?
Thanks
:iagree: Didn't pick up on that before...neat little trick
Yes. Copper weld primer. Not cheap.
As for the chrome moly, I purchased 2 48 inch round tube. I wanted the .120 thickness, but they were out of stock so I went with the next thickness. 090. I measured the rails and noticed I needed 43 inches, thus 5 inches for 2 cope cut pieces. I still had to trim the cope pieces to fit. The front of the outer rocker is narrow so a bit more trimming. Another factor is being able to weld all the way around.
Can you post some side views of the passenger side showing how the trunk drop-off connects with the wheel well?
Forgot about the rear shock crossmember.
Check out the old one. Nice size hole on the left side. I guess air shocks and 1/4 mile runs may have been a contributing factor?
Passenger trunk extension to outer wheelhouse
Thank you for the trunk drop of pictures!
How does the drop off get connected to the quarter panel?
Checking fitment for the Tail Light Panel.
Nice setup and details.
That left hole must have made for some good rattling down the road.
What size metal tube did you use for the frame table please? Thank you
Also if you don't mind table dimensions. Thanks
Found the original receipt with dimensions. I called it in and they had it in stock.
Unfortunately too blurry to read or maybe it's my old eyes. Can you post the name of the company? Thanks,
I uploaded a clearer picture.
Perfect! Thank you for your time in providing this. I do appreciate your efforts.
