Title: 1970 Carter AVS - what material is it- Help
Post by: Rutro on July 19, 2017, 02:27:13 PM
I'm would like to get my 70 AVS Carter sealed/coated. I've glass beaded it carefully (blocked all the holes). I had some white corrosion inside the bowl, and would like to either get chromate coating or a conformal "clear alodine" coating on the body. I wanted to make sure I know what the body is made of.
Is it a zinc die casting or cast aluminum?
Has anyone had this done before?
Thanks in advance guys/gals.

The only guy I know that might be able to point you in the right direction would be @ScottSmith_Harms (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/scottsmithharms_164)    :fingerscrossed:

They are aluminum alloy (best guess would be 5000 series), but do contain other materials. I'm not sure exactly which ones but likely small amounts of zinc.
