Curious what everyone is using to cover the 727 Auto Shifter and Mechanism. Assuming clear?

I paint those parts various colors like Seymore's Stainless Steel paint :bigthumb:

Ok. I'll have to order some. Can I use the Seymore's Stainless Steel paint directly over metal or do I need a primer base?
