Title: 172 Alternator
Post by: C_B5 on March 17, 2018, 06:59:39 PM
Original 3438172 alternator
Has nice clear readable "70" date codes on both the front and rear cases

The 3438172 part number stamp is a little light

$160.00 includes shipping in USA (lower 48)

Or trade for an alternator with early - mid Sept 1969 date code. Date circle must be nice readable condition.

I thought 172 alternators had a single pulley.

Agree the "172" alternators are usually a single groove pulley.
Have no idea whether or not (or why) it was switched but the pulley looks as though it's never been removed.

Would also trade the alternator for one with an early to mid Sept 1969 date code.
The date circle stamp must be clean and readable.

Here's a photo of the date code
The 343 and ending "172" are visible though the stamping is light

This seems to be caused by the pad area not being perfectly flat
