Even though tire size has become very limited for 15" rims, I still prefer the look of a 15" rallye rim with trim rings and center caps. I plan on using a standard rear end with 11" drums and disc brake setup up front . I was thinking of using 15 x 8 rims all around but not sure if this is the way to go. Car will be street driven.
-Is there any other mfg of Chrysler rallye rims/trim rings besides Wheel Vintiques?
-What would be a good street tire for this combination? Not going for the low profile look, something a little more classic, i.e. 275/60/15. I know Nitto makes a good street/drag radial but are there any other choices?
- Do the trim rings made for the 15 x 7 look and fit ok on the 15 x 8 reproduction rims?
The 17 x 9 are obviously a better choice for modern tires but cant bring myself to part with the classic rallyes.
The face should be the same on the 15x7 as the 15x8's so trim rings will fit (pretty sure). I'm with you and like the classic look of 15" wheels, but there's not much selection left. I'm just happy they make the reproduction Polyglass.
15x7 in front and 15x8 in back
I definitely want a good street tire but dont need the polyglass originality, although its great you can get that.

That looks tough, nice raked profile.

What size are the respective front and rear tires Mike please?
215/70/15 275/60/15
Had this a while back...15 X 7 and 15 X8 with 225/60 and 275/60
:wowzers:
Tire choices are real slim, looks like BFG's are about the only option for 15" rims.

Mickey Thompson and Cooper options,
I am looking at these two options as my BFG are old.

OK, I did see the Cooper's, but not the M/T's. Maybe that would work, appears to have good ratings. At least a few more sizes to choose from.
currently looking at available tires/wheel combos for a '69 RR: 15x8.0 with 275/60/15 & 15x7.0 with 245/60/15
available at Summit:
BFG Radial T/A
M/T Sportsman
Cooper Cobra
Mastercraft Avenger

That was the combo size I was considering as well. What are your thoughts on the brands you've listed?
I recommended the BFGs - as future availability for a replacement tire or pair would be easier
I'm not sure you can get 245/60/15s on the front of an e-body without clipping the front corner of the fender? :dunno:

I'm not sure either, someone had posted the exact same combo on the c-c site (think it was Carlwalski) and he said there were no rubbing issues. However, I'll definitely look closer before I purchase anything. I'm a long ways off before the car is ready for tires.

Thanks Cuda Mike
Personally I like the tires and wheels to be the same front and back. M/T is a good choice for a tire I think, better than Cooper or the brown letter T/A's. 235X60X15 are a safe choice on the front with stock offset wheels in my experience. If you really need bigger on back 245X60X15 works on the back. Both these Challengers are 235X60X15 and 245X60X15.
Great looking cars.
Considering changing to OEM 15" classic look but torn between them and new aluminum 17" copies. This information has been helpful.

Yeah, the limited availability of 15" tires should make choosing the 17" wheel easier.... I still like my 15's but the performance advantage & tire availability makes the swap to 17" very tempting....

Agree that 17" Probably the most logical choice and these do look like the way to go for me at least.
I like the look of the 1974 center caps on them even though I have a 1971. Plus they are true to the OEM 15" look.
You can get those for 30% off now at Year One. You wont get free shipping but you still come out way ahead.
15" tires out there that are dedicated street tires and off the shelf at a host of retailers;
BFG TA
Mickey Thompson ST
Mickey Thompson SR
Cooper Cobra
Mastercraft Avenger
Dean Stinger
Maxxis Bravo
Maxxis Marauder
Futura Super Sport
Hankook Ventus
Nankang SP-7
General Grabber
Vanderbilt Turbo Tech
Nearly all of these are S and T speed rated and are what are typically called "cosmetic performance" tires i.e. they look good but are not necessarily high performance tires. The MT SR and Maxxis Maruader are H speed rated, so they may be a bit better than the rest but are not available in RWL at all.
Of course there is a whole host of racing and d.o.t. racing tires from Hoosier, Goodyear, Phoenix, Dunlop, Avon and others that are out there for dual purpose machines or if you need increased grip. However, most of these would be good weather drivers at best.
I have 235-60-15 on the front and 275-60-15 on the back. on the factory 15x7 rims, no issues with rubbing on the inner lip.
I ran 245X60X15 all around on this one. I had to cut a pie shape out of the front bottom wheel opening to make them work at the ride height I like.
I like the 17 inch Rallyes and would consider them for sure on a slightly modified car.

I'm running M/T's on the back.
They are doing good. Wish they were a little more sticky is all but that's O.K.
They have a great load rating so they can handle big block front end weight very well.
Looks wise, I think they are the best since the white letters are probably the smallest font size.
I don't like the Big white letter look like what BFG is like.
T/A Radials were pretty popular back in the day, BF Goodrich P235/60R15 Tire, Radial T/A - 9082 $136.99 each, and of course pay you local shop to install. But at the end of the day it is a personal preference. But back in the day I could not afford them, Douglas Grab-n- Go was all I could afford.
The trouble with the current T/As is the brown lettering on them.

Haven't bought a set of BFG's in a while...did the quality go south and should I be mounting white letter in?

Car Nutt- how do the 275s fit on the back?. My car came with L60s on the back which I believe to be the same as 275s and they sort of bulge at the sidewalls on the OEM 7" Rallye wheels and definitely wore out in the center faster than on the edges indicated they they "rounded" on 7" rims. I wanted to replace them with the 275s to get as much rubber on the ground as I can without going to a larger rim but everything I've read says that 255 is the largest I should go with a 7" rim and if I want to run 275s I should go to an 8" rim. You thoughts please and anybody else than wants to chime it.
The quality went South when they were engineered. :deadhorse:
Brand new, I hydroplaned going slow on a Mountain road and almost went off a cliff.
Never will use them again.
I currently have 235-60R15 BFG's, but for the next set, I will definitely get the Mickey Thompson Sportsmant SR's 26x8.00 or 26x10.00 tires:
