Title: Best mechanical fuel pump?
Post by: torredcuda on July 07, 2018, 02:45:08 PM
Fired the cuda up and it ran but not great, found a burnt rubber plug on the carb causing a vacuum leak and got it running better but not great then it started dying out. Either I ran out of gas  or my fuel pump died, gage still read above empty so figure the diaphragm took heat from the fire. Have a Carter mechanical one and need a replacement, what`s the best mechanical one that doesn`t cost a fortune?

If it's a stock engine I've always just used a standard replacement one. I'd get a carter. Rock auto has if for about $12.00

Not stock, 9.5-1, decent cam, ported heads and a 750 DP Holley with Proform body that sucks fuel.

Thats the race version... 9.5 PSI.... Not a good choice for a street pump.....   I use to use the street version that was rated at 6 PSI but newer street pumps are rated at 7.5 PSI & in that range you should be running a pressure regulator....

Most of the pumps sold for Mopar these days are either stock replacements or rated at 7.5-9 psi....

Edelbrock offers a 6 psi version....   this is the small block version...   https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1720/overview/make/dodge
