Title: I want a #s matching 4-spd. AAR 'Cuda project!!
Post by: Monsterzero on August 24, 2017, 09:41:17 AM
Am I asking for too much? Im looking for a project car that I can afford to purchase and eventually restore. I'd like it to be a car that's numbers matching across-the-board, ideally with documents, if possible.
These are the colors in order of preference (am I being too picky?):

FJ5 (Lime Light)
EB5 (Blue Fire Metallic)
FE5 (Rallye Red)
FC7 (In-Violet Metallic)

Please let me know what's out there. I've already missed out on two projects cars and I'm slowly losing faith that I will ever find my one dream e-body Mopar. Thank you in advance!

"that I can afford to purchase"

This is the key phrase here.  There are several projects out there, what is your budget?

You might be asking for to much. I've been looking too for another project and people seem to think their junk is worth a fortune. They have no clue what it takes to restore a car and not have more into it then it's worth.

I understand your question and I was hoping to be between 30K - 35K. I know some people think that's too low but I have to consider my cost of restoration since I have to hire that out and then consider the final cost of the car itself.

I always say buy the best car you can afford.  If you picked up this AAR project for $36k for example ([ebay]132259331118
[/ebay], plan on being into it for over $100k and a couple of years before you are done.  However, you can buy a decent AAR for less than that and drive it right now.

I might know of an AAR 4 speed that is orange.  It's a project.  Where part of the country are you in?

everybody wants to be ahead of the game (who wouldn't?)  :bigmoney: if it was easy, everybody would be doing "IT"! (or already did)

quality, numbers, documented, unrestored "projects" are few & far between especially 47 years later & after a number of HIGH point$ in the musclecar market

a popular when new & good color numbers 4-speed AAR isn't a needle in a haystack search (plenty built) - they are out there  GOOD LUCK!

It's good to keep your options open and be johnny-on-the-spot ready when the time comes.

I agree with you completely. I actually was ready to pull the trigger on one car a couple weeks ago, but in the time it took me to try and confirm the validity and ask questions, someone else purchased it. It's hard to put out cash when you hear of so many horror stories with re-bodied cars.
I love the AAR in your avatar, BTW!

I wasn't really asking for people's opinion I was asking for people's help.
If you're looking for an AAR project, based on your comment, why don't you buy the one listed on this forum from Chris Bonfiglio? Just thought I'd help you out.

I have a FJ5 Sublime 4-Speed numbers matching Challenger T/A project with white interior that I am thinking of selling.  Might be out of garage space soon so something might have to go.

Since I have 3 T/A's and I'm running out of garage space, I might be selling one of them.  Can't believe I'm out of garage space already  :Thud:  and I just can't bring myself to store any projects outside.  I'll know more in the next couple weeks if I'll be needing more room.  The T/A I might sell is a full project and will need a lot of work.  However, it's about as cool as it gets.  High impact color, numbers matching engine, numbers matching 4 speed trans, radiator, cowl and fender tag (no build sheet).  Rallye dash and a real deal tri-colored factor E-Body.  FJ5 Sublime with black T/A stripe and black hood with White interior and top.  Really neat color combo.  Can't say I've ever seen that color combo in person.  The bones are solid, but someone started a resto and I have to assume it was not done right.  I suspected I would be replacing a lot of sheet metal when I started the restoration (quarters, trunk pan, window channels and such), but the frame looks to be solid.  I don't have any recent photos, but here's some I took when I got it.  It's been stored inside an AC / heated garage since I've owned it.

That would be a sweet one to hang on to if you possibly can.... :alan2cents:

@bpsmopar (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/bpsmopar_242) are you reading this ? That @Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1) T/A would be a great car to get.

I would love a shot at restoring that....if I was in a better financial situation I would consider buying it.

Wow: I don't know if I'd give up that T/A Cody. I'm sure you have something cool you're looking at though. Pretty hard to find something with the right combo like this one has.

If I keep this T/A project, then it might have to be the Purple T/A 4-speed that goes.  But I just rebuilt the engine, trans and everything so I would like to keep it awhile so I can enjoy driving it.  The only other projects that I thought about was maybe one of the the 71 340 Cuda's.  But since there are 2 71's cuda's and 3 T/A it makes sense to me to let one of the T/A's go.  We should all be this lucky to even have this problem. :D

Ha, ha: Yes I wish I had that problem. Do you have room for another lift? Maybe triple stack the little devils.

I think the question we should be asking is what is @Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1) up to....what could he be possibly buying that would be better then a T/A ?

Exactly what I was thinking Alan. A V-code would sort of be a lateral (maybe even downward) move. So that leaves R-codes and 27 codes the way I see it.

I tried to order triple lifts originally , but I could not get them in my shop roof space.  Had to go with double stacks.

You and Alan crack me up.  I'll go in to the details later, but it has a little to do with this site and some future plans for E-Bodies.  A lot of neat things are coming.   ;)

Yeah Cody, I don't think you will come across that high impact color on a T/A again. Heck I'd keep it. I have a buddy at work who is also bit with the muscle car bug so we may lease some space to store fun stuff.

Food for thought.
