Thought since most/all of my resto was on the old CC.C site, I would start doing some posting of what I started with and ended up with along the way. Haven't posted many pics here so something that I did may help (or not)....somebody else. Anyway. I will post some now and along and anyone else is free to do the same.....
I started in 2004.......on the road in 2008, but still making changes and fixing stuff of course....
By the way........the engine detailing was done by a local guy, not me, and he did all that with the engine in the car.........I thought he did a good job.
Another few..........
Will select more along if the thread is well accepted........thanks, David.
Beautiful,
Thanks NC..........
This pic is from my first show...2008.....Mopars at the Rock......Poured the rain.......I was in a little low spot.!!!
And have been to a few more shows since the first one......but don't think I have the best Challenger around......that's just it....very few Mopars in our area.....so not much completion......
Really nice Challenger! I love shots of our cars on wet pavement!
I love your car. I always liked your posts on the other site also so yes keep posting more pics!
Wes
Fantastic job! :clapping: :1place:
Looks great, nice job
Great job, that's impressive doing the engine compartment without pulling the engine.
I like the picture of the car "walking on water" :bigthumb:
Most of the work was done in my garage by me.......so don't laugh if you see something strange.. :)
This is an SE and I had to work with the original hardboard.....which was a little rough...
Plus other stuff.
I patched the original tank and got by for a few years....but then had to get a new one...
This is where she lives. I know someone started a thread about garage art, so this can sneak in here to cover that too.
The paint was done in a friends garage but it turned out well..........and I was very pleased with the price....!!The top was put on there too and they painted the stripe...It is not to correct spacing but I made adjustments, which I will post later........
Cool stuff, love the garage art too! :bradsthumb:
Thank you for posting! good work and super nice car! I'm also doing most of the restoration myself and I will be happy if I'm anywhere near your result. :bravo:
Thanks guys for the comments. This just isn't for my progress, you guys can also,do some before and after.
Nice job! Love the color! :perfect10:
It's a great looking Challenger for sure. I really love the color combination you picked.
Hey, I was wondering if your challenger is an originally U-code car? The reason I ask is because I once owned an R/T SE that looked very similar to the one you started with; burnt orange R/T SE with black vinyl top but mine was a N-code car. I owned mine from around 1979 to 1993 and then sold it to some guy from Kentucky and never saw it again. I realize the chance of it being the same car is almost zero but thought it was worth asking.
Inspiring!! :wowzers: :clapping: Nice job.

Yes it is an original U code. I do not have the original engine but it is a 440. There were 733 of these built with the 440, 727, and 8 3/4. The original pic I have shows a white vinyl top. I will post, that tomorrow as most of the pics are on the desktop. I will also post most of the vin too.
OK, I found a pic that the previous owner sent me......has a white top and white side stripe..do not know if that was orig. or not...... the Vin is JS29U0E1095XX.
OK. Adding a little more...........Polished all the trim while the car was away at paint..
Had to make a frame for the rear window since it was an SE...used corrugated plastic and foam. I broke the windshield when removing so had to replace that........ordered thru Napa.....
The rear valance was a mess...........my guys did a good job on that....
Very good Job David, I like that color combo and the fact that you did it yourself. Hard to beat those Virginia boys. Inside joke. David and I worked at the same company back in the day.
Hood decal of course..........went well I thought........soapy water, squeegee, effort. The only thing, I started with the large part first and the water got the bottom wet and paper started to come apart some.....was able to get it all off and decal layed flat..
Sem products.........good stuff.........original parts too........
OK.......I mentioned the butt stripe not being quite right.........so I made an adjustment, which is I know not factory......... but I like it........
Great looking Chally....nice work! :clapping:
When it comes to drilling holes in a perfectly good trunk lid.......... you want to make sure you measure 3 times, drill once..... it worked......bought the complete kit in order to make sure that I had no warping of the lid...........
Have been posting some of the newer mods....... will go back and post some of the really deep things soon. Thanks for looking.......

And that takes a lot of nerve to drill like that, good work!

You have to be fully grounded to do,somethings! :). LOL
Really nice job! I'm also doing most of my own work in my garage. I also used the Sem black landau, etc on my interior pieces and was very happy with the results. I hope to take mine to it's first show next month if I can finish up the final details before then.

Go ahead and go to the show......I put a paper in my window that she was a project still in process... :wrenching: .....the judges understand and you can enjoy the show.......
Dash Cap.............didn't have the money to get the dash Pad.......so I am completely satisfied with the cap and how it fit and shows.........Year One parts at the time...........
Carpet really makes you feel like you are making progress....................
Someone mentioned holes before as they had replaced quarters....I suggested 2 holes but couldn't find evidence for my memory.......found it......
Really enjoying checking out your progress on the Challenger and can appreciate your efforts in working out of your garage. I remember seeing your pics on the CC website.
I am working on my A-66 Challenger vert, also in Y1 yellow in my garage so can really understand how it is to be doing your own work in your own garage.
Took your suggestion in a before / after shot: I also painted my engine compartment with the engine in the car.
I keep plugging away!
You are doing a great job on your car! :perfect10:
Thanks 340..........., you will get there. Yes I worked on the car for about 4 years and the wife said, it had to be finished as I was using up her half of the garage most of the time. You will notice some dates on a lot of the pics from 05 to 08 or so......I am just going back thru some of the pics I have and posting. Since I was originally on the CC.C site, we had a resto thread there and I had a lot of pics that went away....so I figured I would start posting some of the results here of the progress as it was. Hopefully some of the mistakes I made won't be recreated by someone else.....!! :D
When I got the car, I got the set of Rally wheels with it. They had the 73 centers and later I got a set of the 70 and changed. But up until that time I had to get them looking a little better....Paint and polish......
That was me who asked about the quarter window holes. I did drill two holes so all is good. Thanks for the picture anyway.
Just posting some pics of what I found when I started the deconstruction. (got that from Overhauling)
And some parts that had to buy over time.........
Definitely like the after...

I agree. Nice progress! :clapping:
Outstanding job! :perfect10:
Ok, if you notice some of the pics, they will have dates back in 2005,6,7 and some without. The pics span the time I got the car until recently. So some are old , some newer. I will post more of the deconstruction as time goes. My car was done as a driver but some things turned out well. Later, David. And thanks for the comments.
Just a few random pics............
Nice work!
Thanks Tim. I got the pics a little out of sequence but still before and after. The trunk I did in splatter paint after repairing several pin holes of rust. May not be the correct thing, but it worked for me.
I have just been posting some pics along of the steps I went thru To bring this car back roadable. I have a couple thousand pics. If anyone needs to see some part you may be working on now and need to see how I did a repair (LOL, may not be exactly correct), I will be glad to post what I have. Thanks for looking. David.
PS, my old 84 Toyota, I still work her pretty good too. Almost 300,000 miles.
