Title: Retro thoughts
Post by: Plumcrazzy on September 06, 2019, 05:37:27 PM
Was digging through some old boxes of car parts from decades ago and ran across a few things that got me remembering decades gone past regarding quirky accessories for our cars such as:

Porta Walls
Curb Feelers
The prism that attached to the dash that allowed you to see the traffic light if you were running a visor.
The weighted mount that laid across the transmission tunnel to hold your 8-track player
Reverb for your speaker system
Blue dots for your tail lights

I am sure you guys can remember a lot of other stuff so let's hear what you got!!

I never owned one  but, the big yellow Accel super coil stands out as a 80's thing.

Thrush mufflers and side pipes- commonly known as leg burners. Sex lights- you know, those little purple clearance lights they used to mount under the dash.

Eh: I usually filled up the garbage can with that sort of stuff when I bought a car. The worst one was peeling the angel fur off my 67 GTX interior when I bought it in 1976. I still remember scraping my fingernails off while scraping off the contact cement from the interior hard panels and headliner.

The first car modification I made was installing an FM converter in my parent's 1975 Dodge Crestwood station wagon.  I still remember I paid $14.95 for it.

I know I actually used this handle in my 67 GTX back in the 70's and I lived in PA. That velvet did help from your hand freezing to the shiftier in the winter.  LOL

I had a plastic one, got it from some guy, used it in a few different cars. then i put it in my 73 ford four wheel drive wrecker. I left it at the ford dealer for a front end alignment, and some stupid lot attendant managed to brake it. heedless to say i was not amused. they would not tell me who was responsible. could never find a replacement.  :madashell:

LOL. hell, I always figured that you needed that much light to do your "business" then either you were afraid of the dark OR your "work" experience was lacking! Done some of my best work in the dark, eh?  :D
