Just got my 71 on the road. As i'm sure you will notice, the front and rear are different. Vehicle is 71. Front grill is 73. Rear grill is 72. It's a 318 with a comp cam, Mid rise speedster intake, Summit 600, factory R12 AC and factor PS with front disk. Absolutely in love with it. Hope you guys like it. First pic (Hopefully my layout is correct) is the before i changed her shoes.

Nice car, what's the VIN ? Everything looks to be a 1972 to me, what makes you think it's a 71  I like the colour :drooling:
Welcome to the site from Panama
Great looking Challenger
 Welcome to the site from Buffalo, NY. Nice car! :bigthumb:
:welcome: From central New York! I have to wonder, every thing looks 72 to me as well. I have never heard of anybody cloning a 71 to a 72. it;s usually the other way around. It's a good looking car never the less. :alan2cents:
Welcome from CO! Love the rims!
Cool color and I like the new shoes! Welcome from Michigan! Enjoy the site!
I Agree with Alan.... Only thing I see thats not 72-74 is the bumper guards... Regardless welcome to the site..
I'm guessing it's registered as a 71? Have you compared the number stamped into the cowl to the number on your title?

Bumper guards would be a correct option for a 72.

I don't recall ever seeing early style guards on a 72 so I just went to Hamtramck Historical & checked dealership literature & you are correct... So another part that doesn't point to the car being a 71
A lot of people who don't realize the sixth number in the VIN is also the model year of the car. They look at the door VIN decal and see something like Nov. 71 and figure the car is a 1971 :dunno: I would wonder what the title says...
:welcome:
Welcome aboard from Atlanta!
Yeah...i struggled with identifying it too but at the end of the day, it's a 71' with a lot of non 71' details.
Regardless of what year the car is, welcome top the site from Ontario, :canada:
Someone like just took a 71 VIN tag and title and stuck it on a 1972 car :alan2cents:

Love that blue color!
Welcome from Ottawa Ontario Canada!
Welcome from NCal. It is a 72 front and back. Not sure how it came to be a 71.
Welcome to the forum :)
There is a lot of speculation on your car...... you can usually tell if you look at the stampings on the cowl and rad support which I assume you have already done. It's possible that all the parts were pulled off of a 72 to bring a 71 back to life!?!
Nice Ride and welcome from South Carolina.

Been absent for a while...working on a different vehicle now (57 Big Window Chevy).
So, i checked cowl and radiator support numbers, and they match the title, which says its a 71'. I've concluded its just a frankenstein someone pieced back together with a combination of 72 and 71 stuff. Never had a fender tag. Did find an upholstery tag under rear seat but it didn't have build specs on what the vehicle was.
in the last year, it's been an up and down rollercoaster on this E-Body. I spent a REALLY good amount of money rebuilding the 318 (Don't ask me why...still can't make anything up that makes any sense) and now i'm going through a quart of oil every half tank. Rings are shot no doubt (I had the top rebuilt; cam, heads, etc.). I'm on my 3rd intake manifold and all cause a pooling of oil in the valley of the manifold.
Last week got the wet carpet in passenger side treatment so, sheet, now will have to take the heater box out and have the core rebuilt.
Hoping this winter i get the strength (and money) to pull the 318 out and put a 408 crate in her...hoping.
