Hey, Y'all! I'm Cody from Michigan. After looking at countless A, B and E bodies over the last 9 months I finally picked up a '70 R/T clone in beautiful B5 blue. I had it shipped here from Minnesota and it arrived last night. Sooooo exciting! I wish it didn't have a vinyl top (it wasn't born with one so somebody added it...WHO DOES THAT!?!), but I wanted B5 blue, so it had to be done. Unfortunately the guy I bought it from doesn't know what's been done to the rebuilt 440 other than it has some kind of Purple Shaft cam in it. He also put on 2" exhaust, YES 2" EXHAUST!, with glass packs. I will be ordering TTi 1 7/8" ceramic headers and 3" exhaust with an H or X pipe, not sure yet, today hopefully. Here are some pics of the car as it arrived that my brother took, and two the previous owner took. I'm sure I will be speaking to many of you, as I know I'll have a lot of questions. Thanks!
Welcome! Looks like a real nice car! Enjoy! :clapping:
Congrats on your purchase.
Welcome
:welcome: That is a sharp car! I am not a big fan of vinyl tops ether. I do however like the V02 two tone look. I had a FY1 yellow with a X9 black roof, longitudinal stripe. I thought it was sharp. :handshake:
 Welcome to the site from Buffalo, NY. Glad you were able to find a car... she's a beauty!
Welcome, that's a nice looking Hot Rod. Vinyl tops look pretty good on a Challenger so I wouldn't fret about it.
Congrats on your purchase and :welcome: from Utah. Beautiful Chally. You'll meet lots of friendly and helpful people on this site. I have the TTI 1 7/8 " ceramic headers and TTI 3" exhaust with the X pipe with the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. However, my 440 is a 512 stroker and putting out well over 500+HP. You might want to stick with a 2 1/2" exhaust if your engine is basically stock. Also, 3" exhaust pipes will necessitate changing out your exhaust tips. Stock tips won't work with 3", not sure about 2 1/2". Good luck with whatever you decide.
Congratulations! Another vote for keeping the vinyl top. First impression is that it looks great on your car.
:iagree: Love your new ride and :welcome: to the best E-body site on the planet!
Keep the vinyl top if it looks like it was installed correctly. If the previous owner installed it correctly you will have a bunch of trim holes to weld up if you want to take it off.
Welcome nice car ,I would leave the roof on now because it's to much work to remove it . I am with you not a fun of the vinyl but I could live with it . Hope you drive the wheels off your car and enjoy it cheers :australia:
Welcome to the site from Ontario, :canada: and congrats on scoring a good looking car, vinyl or not!
Welcome from North Carolina. Sweet ride you have.....a real sleeper for sure. Enjoy the car and you will enjoy the site!
Great-looking car! It is screaming for those steelie wheels to be painted body-color!
Welcome a board ! :welcome:
3" exhaust is likely overkill in my opinion, 2.5" is more than enough :alan2cents: ....My vote is vote rally wheels or mags and get rid of the steel wheels altogether :D
:iagree:
rallye > steel
If steel, should be body colored
2.5 inch exhaust should work best
Who would add a vinyl top? I would😆...Vinyl tops are period correct and cool on E-bodies..

I like the vinyl top and congratulations on your purchase.
Hello and congratulations on the beautiful find!
Nice color combo(clone or not), I think the vinyl top, stripe, and black wheels really look great! A good contrast. How about some interior shots? What are your plans for her?
Congrats !!! Beautiful car...
My opinions... I like the vinyl roof...goes well and is period correct. I also agree with anluto buy yourself a nice set of mag wheels... i personally never liked the steel wheel hubcap look.
Enjoy !!
Congrats on owning a beautiful Challenger and :welcome:
I love the vinyl roof but if it were mine I would go with different wheels

That is what I like about the VO2 paint scheme, It uses the chrome to break up the two colors.
Thanks everybody! I'm not going to be changing the top anytime soon. I'm going to be adding ported aluminum heads and a bigger cam in the near future. I'm going to be buying some 17's or 18's soon, and upgrading the brakes. I just bought the TTi headers and exhaust, now I'm afraid I might have to buy their ridiculously expensive tips too. I should have gotten 2.5" probably, but I am going to add more power later. I was going to buy electric cut-outs, but buying $468 tips might put a damper on that. I bought a K&N filter with the XStream top, K&N breathers, wire separators, a Tuff wheel (my fav), stainless puke tank for my aluminum radiator, heater hose bracket and aluminum clamp things. None of the gauges are working, the stock shifter doesn't like going in gear, and there is a very odd like humming sound when you are driving. So, I gotta fix that crap. I, also, want rallye gauges, but that might have to wait for later. I'm going to get new headlight bezels, and probably a new grille.

I buy all my aftermarket exhaust from TTI, but I buy all my stainless steel Challenger exhaust tips from PG Classics :alan2cents:

Just bought them, thanks! I, also, bought a flip up gas cap!
The only thing with their tips...They maybe the exact same size as the tail pipe, requiring you to take them to an exhaust shop and have them bump the size up a bit to fit "over" the pipe.....That's just something I found with their 2.5" tips.... :alan2cents: Easy fix...
Nice car! Welcome to the site. Vinyl top looks good! Rallyes would look awesome on your car.

Go for the 17" rallies :D
I do love the 17" Rallye's! I should start a wheel and tire shop that lets you put on different wheels and tire sizes before you buy. Might do really well...Also, here is an interior shot. I keep hitting my knee on the wheel when i go for the brake pedal. I wish it was like 4" closer to the firewall. It's not like I'm tall, I am only 5'9". Anybody want to buy the Grant wheel I have since I bought the new Tuff wheel?
The problem with the wheel is it's too close to the dash because somebody removed the factory "crush can" when they installed the ugly steering wheel..
The wheel should be about 3"-4" closer to you.. :alan2cents:
HOLY SHIT! You are a genius! Thank you!

The try-before-you-buy tire shop would be awesome!
Another option that I think I'm going to stick with is blacked out rallies with trim rings
Welcome.
Funny, I recently bought a 440 Challenger and had it shipped from Michigan.
Another similarity, the first thing I did was take it apart too. 😎
:welcome: to the site.

You have good taste! :clapping:
Congrats! Cool ride!
If you're going to change the gauges, I would buy Dakota DIgital RTX gauges.
About the same price as restored OEM ones, yet looks slick! You'll need to find a bezel and woodgrain. Get the 1970 style and put in some reset knobs where the holes are.

As for wheels...everyone has Rallyes. Kind of like MP valve covers.
Try something different.
Maybe:
some 17" Magnum 500s:

Welcome from Metro Detroit and good looking car. Keep the roof. It is a hassle to remove, then you have to sand, prep and color match paint. I could live with that. I have the original black vinyl top on my car. I also like B5 Blue. Long ago I had a 69 super bee in B5 blue :ohyeah:
Me too,
I want those gauges badly!
