Title: The West Coast needs it's own Carlisle
Post by: Topcat on January 29, 2017, 12:11:56 AM
Back in the  late 80's to early 90's there used to be some really good Mopar shows in N. CA.

What made them so good as well was their locations.
2 of them I recall were excellent places.

Mopars at the Beach did shows right near the beaches of Santa Cruz then later on, Monterey.

There was also Power in the Pines up in the Gold Country.

Just wishing we could revive days like that again here in Nor Cal.

We have Spring & Fall Fling in Van Nuys and then, a bunch of 'smalls' sprinkled about but, it's a gap.  :iagree: Given the distance between NorCal & Carlisle, I bet a big NorCal show/swap wouldn't impact Carlisle turnover whatsoever.

To hear you talk about the old NorCal shows @Topcat (http://forum.e-bodies.org/index.php?action=profile;u=46)  makes me wish we got into e-bodies sooner...sorry we missed that opportunity & experience. :(

Could power in the pines and Santa Cruz locations hold a very big show and swap??

I went to the Santa Cruz show in 1991 and it was like 150-200 not a real big swap.

I e-mailed the guy in charge of Mopars at the beach and asked if he plans to do it again.

I say we get a bunch of mopar folks together and take over the Saratoga Car show.

That could be fun! No real swap meet but at least it's a pretty cool venue.

Here was his reply:

My wife and I will not be organizing anymore shows for Mopars by the The Bay. We found it to hard for the 2 of us to put on this show.
Thanks for your concern.

Wait! It just came to me ... Mopars at the "Taj-Moparhall" in Brush Prairie Washington!

You didn't think Cody and Jen built that incredible facility just for themselves did you?

Alright, it's set then. All that has to be done is to set a date. Who's in?

That is no longer a all MOPAR show . . . Kind of ruined it IMO .  .  :dunno:

:iagree:  It kinda sounds like any other show now.

So what are the biggest Mopar Shows?  Carlisle, Spring Fling and Nationals are the only multi-day Mopar events, right?

:pullinghair: Moparfest in Canada is a two-day event that gets just as many or more pre-1999 "SHOW CARS" then any of the above shows Cody listed. :alan2cents: over 1500 last year.....
Oh and they are the only show that still gives away a car for a prize to pre-registered cars,

Jump in and start one. I helped organize the first car show at Disney World, and it overwhelmed their resources...partly because they didn't listen to me when I told them how many people they'd get.

I'm under the impression that those are pretty good sized events.

In November near Ocala Florida Big Daddy Don Garlits holds Mopars with Big Daddy at his drag racing museum.
I think it's about 500 Mopars every year + a swap meet, and lasts for at least 2 days (maybe 3?).

Sure. Come on down to Spring Fling.

Largest mopar swap meet west of Mississippi and 3rd largest mopar only swap to Carlisle and Nationals.

Oh, and a mopar track day at Wilow Springs, Malibu Beach Cruise, Cruise In, and FREE spectator show admission

I think would be a great place possibly to do a Mopar show would be Infineon Raceway.
It's near Napa.

Ever been car shows there before?

More often then not I went up there for Weds Grudge night.

Good times....

Wish there was something big in the PNW, there are a number of tracks and facilities but the effort to put on a show is significant. We have Sunburst in Graham WA which is ok but pretty small, now that we have a new track out in Shelton (The Ridge), that could host a pretty big event but I don't think anyone has the wherewithal to put something on.

I have been to the Nats, MATS and Van Nays Spring Fling, each has its attraction although the MATS is no longer (now I think it is MCATS = Muscle Cars at the strip).

The best show by far now is the Carlisle show!  That is the one to attend for MOPARS!  Wish it wasn't an 8 hour drive but sure it is more for other members!  I guess I should be happy as Woodward is 45 minutes for me . . . .
