Title: Site Update
Post by: Cuda Cody on November 20, 2023, 04:41:11 AM
We have a really cool theme designed working on getting us back to the theme look that we had before.  We are slowly working on getting the modifications made to the forum that made our site easy to use.  The main one that everyone seemed to like was how easy it was to upload photos.  Right now it's back to the stock limits and required us to resize them before we upload.  That's a pain!  :pullinghair:  The old modification that fixed that does not work on our version so I'm working on finding someone to help us fix that.

We do have a way to flip our own images now!  After you upload a photo, click on the "MORE" tab in the bottom right corner of your post and you'll see the "IMAGE ROTATION" icon (only if you have a photo uploaded).  That takes you to the edit page where you can use the little fly-out at the bottom flip and rotate your photo in any direction!

More updates to come!

I just discovered that all of the book marks I have saved over the years to this site no longer take me to the actual marked thread!

Instead it takes me to "updated topics".

I have book marks drilled down to dash, interior, door panel restoration, clocks, etc.  Now they point no where but to the "updated topics" page.  Ugh.  I hope this can be fixed.  I feel like my library just burned down.

Yep we are seeing this on the backend too. It has to do with an SEO mod not being installed currently. We will need to get the latest version downloaded and installed.

This is on the list and sorry for the inconvenience.

I tried to post a picture last nite but came up with an error that it was too big? It's from my cell phone? Not sure how to resize? Just thought I'd mention the issue.

Yeah, the old format resized large pics automatically to be postable. My phone's camera is set to the lowest resolution and yet some pictures are 3M+. I usually email them to myself, download, then resize them.

@Brads70 If you edit the picture to trim off all the edges as much as you can it will reduce the size and let you post. Must be under 2 kb or mb or one of those.

@Brads70  yes, getting the easy photo upload is on the list to do.      It's a for sure thing we must get fixed!

Alright the max upload size for attachments has been raised to 40MB. This should be good for most pictures. If not we can raise it again haha.

Things are about to get back to normal... well, better than normal!      Super happy we can post photos easily again!  :woohoo:   And from what I can tell all the site delay issues we had with the old theme forum are now gone.   :fingerscrossed:   @TwitchisMental  has built us a super cool forum that he will roll out in the near future.  Can't wait for you guys to see what he's done.   :veryexcited:

TwitchisMental has been built us a great new forum theme and I'm just now getting to see it and test.  So far it's working fantastic.  Just a couple little changes before it goes live to everyone.  And when you guys see the new forum, please give it some time to try it out.  I know change is hard and the new theme is very much like the old theme.  So it's basically like no change!  :drunk:

Well cockroaches adapt to their environment, and we're on the top of the food chain, so it should be no problem.  :bigthumb:

Thanks for maintaining the site, the effort much appreciated!

If I could make a request for when you have time, it would be really helpful to have a link at the top of the page to go to a list of topics I've either started or posted in, regardless of whether a topic has new posts since my last visit.  I often want to go back to reference something and currently (and I think previously) it took a few clicks to get into my profile and then navigate to the list of topics.  Hope that makes sense, thanks for listening  :D

Thanks for your work !!

@Racer57  You should be able to post photos right now.  Click the blue REPLY button at the bottom of a thread and then select the area under the text box that says "Click or drag files here to attach them".

You can do a test in this thread or here...

Maybe we should see if we can add it to the quick reply? If it's not to hard, that might be a good idea!

Just looked over the latest theme update and I'm running it on my view now.  It's looking awesome!  I've asked the programmer to make a couple small updates before we roll it out live to everyone.  Get your motors running!  :burnout:  We're almost ready to go.

Thanks for improving the "Home" button too, it doesn't open a second window anymore. Great job on all the work. Maybe that crash was a blessing in disguise, ie: no more site slowdowns.

Probably an obvious question. Will the programer be able to set you up with regular, automatic backups in case of a server crash ?

Yes, we have a backup of the forum database, however the big issue we faced this time was the move to a new server did not support the older PHP we ran so the look and feel of the design we had before was not possible with the new server.  And we needed a new dedicated server to improve the speed.  But have no fear!  The new forum design is ready!
