Title: Chrome browser?
Post by: Cuda Cody on February 20, 2018, 01:23:01 PM
What the heck is going on with the chrome browser?  It's super slow to type and responds clunky to scrolling?  It just started happening.  All my other programs work fine.  Now I'm using Explorer to make posts.  I want Chrome to work again.   :crying:

Anyone else having these issues?

Check your browser's "add-ons" and "extensions". Far too often these things sneakily attach themselves to your browser to "enhance" your internet experience but all they are really doing is logging your browsing habits, directing ad traffic to you based on your habits and of course bogging your browser down in the process. :Thud:

Are you using Chrome?  I am and it's driving me crazy.  This all started yesterday.  When I use Explorer it's not an issue even with the same flashing ads.   :pullinghair:  What did Chrome change?   :headbang:

The last post was with Chrome and it took forever to get the curser to work.

Then I come over to a Explorer window and things are working perfectly!   :dunno:  I've used Chrome for years and never had any issues.  I have not made any updates or changes to it either and then yesterday it just started to type slow and not work very good.  I hope they get it fixed soon or I'll have to switch browsers.

Just testing my Chrome right now. I am having some lag/delay time while typing this. The keyboard isn't responding immediately to each keystroke every time. Holy smokes this is annoying, having to wait for the text on my monitor to catch up. The screen even went blank at one time with the message "Chrome is not responding".
Title: Re: Chrome browser?
Post by: Jay Bee on February 21, 2018, 09:16:23 AM
Testing with IE. Typing is instantaneous, no lag or delay. Hard to gauge if page loading took longer than with Chrome. I'm guessing that that speed was the same or, if anything, a bit slower. BUT, absolutely none of that annoying "having to wait for the text on the monitor to catch up to the typing" stuff.

Having the same problems with chrome as Jay Bee.  The posts I made a couple of days ago were really bad with a delay in the text waiting for the monitor to catch up with the typing. A bit better today, but very annoying.

My old PC running Windows-8 will hang up launching or running browsers from time to time.
I've found that restarting will solve most  any issue.  From time to time I run the free version of Malwarebytes & CCleaner...
Some time back I switched to Panda Security http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/panda_cloud_antivirus.html which does not seem to require system resources that every other security suite I've used does.  They have a good free utility that found installed malware for me that others had missed
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/panda_cloud_cleaner.html

Also I've installed the Add Block Plus extension on all browsers for many years which speeds things up by preventing a lot of the resource hungry adds from running

Another Chrome test today. It seems to be working fine this morning. No more lag or delay between typing and displaying. Pages loading at my normal speed again (after further investigation that WAS a bit slower yesterday). Looks like Cody has some pull at Google HQ. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm running Windows 7, AVG, and have Adblock too.

Clear browsing history, check extensions for one that snuck in, look into your programs to see if a new one populated in the last few days you did not download, do a virus scan and restart. From the sounds of it, it is more than likely on your machine unless the network there is really bogged down.

A few years ago, I ended up with a real bugger. Never did figure out how it got in the drive, but eventually went to full blown subscription for anti-virus. Not cheap, but if finds stuff all the time and with a click they are gone. I am able to run it on a few units though. Sometime the bugs come in groves as creators seem to dump them in groups.

With Chrome, you can check what is bottle-necking pages (extensions, tabs, tasks)... Read info here...

Note that you 'may' have to turn on developer menu to see the task manager...

This site got really glitchy for me when using IE so I started using Chrome months ago.  Just today Chrome has been super glitchy so I moved back to IE.  The site has been working fine on IE today.  On Chrome, the screen would freeze up and take a long time for anything I typed to show up on the screen.

Just starting "glitching" and freezing today with this web site?
Not sure, but rebooted and ran my virus protection.  Seems to have helped!

Cody

It would help if you posted what version of Chrome you are running and see if everyone else is seeing the same thing. Last I looked at it (I run FF now) it seemed like some of the ads displayed were real CPU hogs.

I pay for MalWare Bytes full professional. It stops a lot of stuff. It's worth it to me. It stops realtime and ransomeware. I also use AdBlock Plus.

I still have to reboot my computer from time to time. I use Chrome as the primary, and FireFox as a secondary.

We will be running a test for the next 12 to 24 hours.  The ads will be completely turned off in an effort to find what is causing some of the users to have slow response when replying with Chrome.

The test is starting at 7:00 pm Saturday the 3rd of march.

Yup, but we need those ads to pay for the website band width.  Plus it doesn't seem to help with the Chrome browser issue.  My Chrome still sucks.   :pullinghair:  We have not changed anything on the site (including ads) and all of a sudden a couple weeks ago Chrome started acting like crap.   :verymad:  Trying to figure out what they changed and why it doesn't like our site now.

Personally have not had any issues with Chrome and this site so I will assume the issues are specific to your devices. I suggest uninstalling Chrome & running a tool to clean up your devices registry such as CCleaner( http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/ccleaner_slim.html ), restart the device then reinstall Chrome directly from Google, not a third party.

Cody there appears to be a developer tool in Chrome that perhaps could help you ID issues if there are any on the site  https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/

Okay, I've been doing more testing.  Brought my laptop to work with Chrome on it and it's the is the computer that our site does not like.  So the only thing that has changed is that I'm using a different internet connection and now everything is working perfectly.   :Thud:  Seriously, it's super fast and everything is perfect now.

I remember about 2 months ago I started having issues with downloading the large backup file for this site.  I contacted comcast and they said nothing has changed but that I had a modem that was old and I should get a new one.  They suggested that it could be causing the problem.  This all started around the time "Net Neutrality" laws were changing.  I wound if that has anything to do with it?    :pullinghair:

This is a strange, on-going issue
I have tried to post here multiple times over the last week.  My regular browser is Chrome.
Have no problems with other web sites with Chrome
Currently posting on Explorer;  works with no issues.
Same issue as others have stated; very slow performance, when trying to type the cursor hangs on and delays typing the letters/words.
Very frustrating.   :clueless:

:iagree:    Me too. Slow page loading. Aggravating.   :pullinghair:   But at the same time, posting/replying is much better.          Google= Not Net Neutral ?

But it's only slow on this site.  And it's intermittent.  Some times today it's slow and sometimes it's regular.  Like now, no typing lag.

All the other sites are at regular speed.  I often start loading this site and open a new window and open one of the other sites up and start looking through it before I can get this site to load.

Since I'm mentioning the other sties, cc is dead and febo has increased posts like 10 fold.

Is someone (person or ai) deliberately going after the site?

Let's try something...  I've made a small change.  I'll keep it this way for about 12 hours from now. Let see if this speeds things up a bit.

It's a little faster loading pages but there is still a wait time. I've had no typing lag for several days now, except for my brain to fingers lag.

I agree it is better , I'd say about 50% better. I open another window and go to another site and its still much quicker than here. Just leaving feedback, not complaining.

We are continuing to make small changes in an effort to increase the speed of the page load times.

Has anyone noticed any improvements in the site speed?  Better or worse?

Here's what I'm experiencing this morning.

Absolutely NO lag/delay with typing and screen display. However, page loading is the slowest I've seen since being a member. Only on this site. I've visited others first this morning (ebay, weather, Kijiji, cc.c, my bank, etc) and their pages all loaded lightning fast.  Really frustrating watching the blue progress circle spin & spin waiting for the (any) page to load.

Okay, this is insane. Right after typing the above I went back to surfing the topics on here and it's like super fast now. Talk about hit and miss.

It's very slow this morning. Worse than it has been. It takes about 8 seconds for a page to load.

It's driving me nuts!!! :pullinghair:  Can not figure it out.  We have not changed a single thing at all in the last week and now it's back to not working well.  I'm going to contact a few people and see if we can get this figured out.   :headbang:

He did something. It was pretty bad then the nitrous kicked in about 0845k or so. I bought a new computer a few weeks ago and I hate Chrome, my old one had 7 on it I think and I liked it a lot more.

Very very slow for me.  Slowest of all sites I visit.

I have Chrome Version 65.0.3325.181 (Official Build) (32-bit)
I have uBlock Origin add-in and Webmail Ad Blocker
Comcast Blast service which speedtest.net just said I had 238.42 Mbps download.

Don't give up on me yet guys.  I'm going to keep working on it and figure out why it slows down even when nothing has been changed.  I think this might ultimately end up being our service provider and we might have to change hosting companies.

We now have a test program running on the site that I hope will keep things loading faster.   :fingerscrossed:

Cody

It sounds like you are getting throttled by your hosting provider. Your QOS level is getting impacted during peak load times.

I'd agree if this is the case move elsewhere to get better service.

Uninstall and reinstall the latest version.  Clear out all your history and temp files.
