To be sold at the Indy 2020 auction, on 18 July 2020:
https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0520-414971/1972-plymouth-barracuda-sunroof/
1 of 33 produced with factory sunroof.
@sdweatherman (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/sdweatherman_312) : one for the Mopar Sunroof Registry?
Oh that is sweeeet !!
A sunroof 72 is what I would love to find.
Wow this little baby is very different, love sunroofs very nice little package
This one is in the Sunroof Registry already - here is the tag data and pics of it in its unrestored state. Pretty good looking car now!
Scott.
By looking at the fender tag we may conclude that the Barracuda has been restored to factory specs! Cool!
Nice car! :bravo:
Wow...finally....I wanted so bad to buy this car when it was a project, but just couldn't justify the price for a 318 car....I really didn't understand the rarity of the 72 sunroof at that time either, then it disappeared. So glad to see it got a proper restoration.
@bpsmopar (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/bpsmopar_242) this would look great with your white 71 Charger :drooling:

Looks like the N85, A62, tachometer, Rallye cluster was added to the car. Not on the fender tag readout.

What did it sell for as a project?
Nice looking car.
Shouldn't the tail light area be black on 72 cuda?
Too bad it didn't have the V21 option.

It's NOT a "Cuda" it's a Barracuda :alan2cents:

The picture of the tag that I have is a little tough to read. I went back and double checked the codes and what I thought was M88 is actually N85 for the tach. The A62 code for the Rallye Dash was discontinued for 1972. So if you wanted it, you would order J97 Rallye Instrument Panel - which unfortunately does not show up on the tag - but is on this car's buildsheet. With the Rallye Instrument Panel in 1972 - you got the Tach, Clock, Variable speed wipers, Oil pressure guage, Trip odometer, and the 150 speedo. You could only order the Rallye Instrument Panel on V8 cars - no Slantys allowed. So it looks like the tag and build sheet check out. Hope this helps!
great info !!
:takepicture:
8)
and a missed opportunity :alan2cents: it is '72 318 Barracuda w/factory Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 w/RWL tires
That's what I wanted to see! thanks Dan!!
J54 So the hood is correct as well as the rallye cluster.
So what is the predicted hammer price? I don't have a clue other than to say I would have snapped it up at $15k Didn't seem to be too bad.
I dont think i would have restored it either. Looks like its in great driver condition
I'm not up to speed on the sunroof seen other than they are rare. Was there no sunroofs in 70 or 71?
For cuda's the sunroof was only available in 72. As I understand it.
Challengers got them 70 71 and 72. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Sold! Catch of the day? ;)
Probably cost double that to restore it :alan2cents:
$40k for a 318 car? Might as well look for a 318 convt. I say.
A true 340 BS car with the factory sun roof, rallye cluster, and a 4-speed would be nice.

There's a black one that shows up at Carlisle now and then, needs a resto too I think.

Thanks for the plug Dan! Looks like I haven't updated the 1972 sunroof Barracudas in a while. Might have one more car to add possibly. I will see about doing that! Scott.
This 1972 Plymouth Barracuda Sunroof is listed for sale again @ Veit's Vettes and Collector Cars in Bettendorf, Iowa...
http://www.vvncc.com/details.asp?VID=69346259
Asking price... $ 74,900 :o
Remember this car was sold @ Mecum Indy 2020 for... $ 39,050
I see now that they really cut corners with the restoration when it comes to the underneath of the car....Up top, everything looks nice but underneath it looks like a driver...
I feared the same thing when I wanted to buy this car.....that the cost of the restoration would be more then double the resale value.
I think $39K was a good deal, but likely very close to the top end for a 1972 318 car (sunroof makes a huge difference)
$75K is just lunatic ...never going to happen :crazytalk:
:iagree:
"Lunatic"
That's the word I was looking for... ;)
Yes, I thought 39K was VERY top end for the car when it sold at Mecum - figured someone really wanted a 72 Barracuda with the slider and the Quadruple white factory colors were icing on the cake. Not sure who in there right mind would pay almost double for the car now. Hell, for 75K, you could snap up real Hemi car in good driver shape.
Scott.
Humorous actually. I hope they like it, they'll be looking at it for a long time.
I wonder if the dealer that has it listed owns it or has it on commission ? If they bought it thinking they could double up....they better stick to Vettes :alan2cents:
....and who stuck the Cuda emblem on the fender ? If it was the person who restored it...they need a slap in the head... :headbang:
Would rather have a convertible for that price.
Mecum Indy 2021 is approaching soon & the Barracuda's still there - still $74,900 :crazytalk:

I could care less about a sunroof. That car is probably $45k on a perfect day.
Now, if that car had the V21 treatment on top of the sunroof I would have been a player at the 40K.
Hopefully it will sell for 75 large. That will actually bring up the value to all of our lowly 318 cars. Doesn't bring the value up for aar's and hemi's, but will help 318's a little.
My absolute favorite line in the ad description - " If you have ever driven a Cuda with a larger displacement engine you know that they weigh down the front end a great deal and negatively affect the car's handling ability. This car is equipped with the (NOW GETTING RARE) numbers matching lightweight 318 c.i. engine and hooked up to the factory 3-speed automatic transmission, it also comes with Power Steering and Power brakes, it is a real pleasure to drive. "
If 318s are getting rare, I have a few for sale - $5000 money talks, lol. I foresee this car struggling to make $35K.

Must be corvette guys that own it, no self righteous Mopar guy would write that dribble.... :crazytalk:
That is a very cool car but the price is just stupid. I have seen some nice convertibles for that money.
Maybe if it was a 340/4 speed Cuda with Air... MAYBE it'd be worth 50k... 318 auto car that isn't absolutely correct? It went for the right price at auction and hasn't appreciated since.
