Title: 1970 Barracuda /6
Post by: xx88man on February 13, 2017, 07:50:32 AM
NOT MINE

This is a PROJECT CAR. This vehicle has had only two owners. Rare powerful 225 1bbl Slant-6 I6/145hp \"RG\" engine - uses less gas! The car runs well. mileage: 5,850.
My family has had this car for 32 years. My mother was the second owner. When she stopped driving, I took over the Barracuda. I've had it garaged all these years. No rust on the car. Engine and transmission runs fine. Clean CA title in my name. Registration is current.
Located in Pasadena.

Original engine.

I like this one. Is it just me or is that a 1/2 vinyl roof?? What's it worth in this condition?

Interesting car. Does it have some sort of landau roof moulding across the roof?

I've been thinking of doing a slant 6, maybe I'll give them a call.

looks like it was originally B5 like mine. I see a fender tag, I'd be interested to see what it has on it and if it was another LA build. power brakes. I don't recall seeing a 1/2 top on an e-body, it might have been an aftermarket add-on?

@Cuda Cody (http://forum.e-bodies.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1) - not many left and they are being converted to v8s left and right, so it would be nice to see a few examples still left as is and would be a great contrast next to a Hemi and AAR

What do you guys think it's worth?  Is this car a $20 car if rust free?  He's asking more then that!!!!   :Thud:  What should a clean slant 6 project sell for?

@anlauto (http://forum.e-bodies.org/index.php?action=profile;u=19)  what do you think this car is worth if it's truly rust free and numbers matching?  He's asking $23k.   That seems like a lot for a repainted slant 6.

Slant 6 without the original paint and interior needs some serious help.

15k max and I haven't even seen the under the car.

Remember you are buying it for it's originality as a slant 6 so anything that deviates from that is $$$

I am by far no expert on them, but I don't see 23K sitting there.....

Looks clean but who knows whats under the shinny paint job. could be lots of creative sculpting or it could be great. I agree with the 15K max on it.

For that price it's not a good value. Plus, for a 6k mile car the interior looks pretty ratty. I have some serious doubts about the advertised mileage.  :stop:

I think that hot California sun kills car interiors!!! :alan2cents:

$15k max and $10k is probably more realistic without seeing more pics to see the true shape of the sheetmetal and frame.  a fully restored /6 would probably top out at $35-40k max, there just isn't much 'want' or value in a /6 e-body unfortunately, other than to the collector or someone wanting something very unique (hence why most are converted). if it really is mostly rust free, $15k might be reasonable enough for someone to buy it (and probably make it into another Hemi clone ....)

 :iagree: $10K -$15K MAYBE......$23K is absolute NUTS :crazytalk:....I've never heard of a 100% rust free E Body

I would say $15k is absolute max if you absolutely have to have it. I'm thinking more like $12k. Interior is shot & it's not the orginal paint color.

:iagree: and it would have to have FT & original engine - it's in CA so at least 106K and I'd bet LA car & no b'cast sheet
a /6 car would have to be pretty special to want it, to keep /6 & stock - either stripped "no OPTIONS" or "uniquely OPTIONED" A21, P31, etc.

I looked at Hagerty valuation and Collector Car Market , neither lists values for /6 cars.  http://www.collectorcarmarket.com/collector-car/prices/1970-plymouth-barracuda-value.html

Deduct 25% for 6

blue w/white interior, vinyl top (white?), /6, auto, console, AM radio, power disc brakes, deluxe wheel covers (white walls? original spare?) - that looks to be it

it might take a while for him to realize that'll probably be sub-$15K, or he might take it in person ???

don't automatically assume an LA car doesn't have a BC. mine came with one .... albeit for another /6 Barracuda @ 200 or so from mine, but that BC shows a White exterior/blue interior

Spoke to the owner and he's a nice guy, but does not know cars very well.  He talked to some people at a show that told him the slant 6 is rare so he did some research and thinks the car is worth $23k.  He said he will not take less then $20k for it.

I'm waiting for a fender tag photo.  $20k without a build sheet or some cool options is going to be hard.

for that price I would almost go for the /6 vert that was recently for sale, I think in WA or BC

I think it was this one I was thinking of ('70 GC ...) https://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/5962394362.html

there was a red /6 barracuda in Seattle available last year, probably being converted now. there is one /6 vert still on the road as a /6 and from what I recall the owner plans on keeping it that way.

Uneducated sellers can be hard to deal with some times. They don't want to get ripped off so the cars end up not selling and just deteriorate like this one is doing.

Sure would like to see that broadcast sheet.

A bh in B5 with white interior and M46 would just about have to have the blue and white stripe.   I'm just dreaming.

Options could help the value for a specific collector......

$23k would be enough, if it was in mint condition. Although even then I think it would be too high.

Probably not real scientific, but I use the Dynacorn shell for a comparison on what a rust free shell might be worth.  :alan2cents: Then the price can go up or down with what parts/documentation it has and any major metal deficiencies.

The thinks the half top was added before they owned it.

sent them a detailed email too with multiple links and realistic thinking. hopefully they will actually read it and take it into consideration. I'd hate to see it made into another resto-mod and having a buyer that actually wants to keep it as a /6 is rare, so I hope you get it Cody.

there were a couple aftermarket companies doing those back in the '70s, I remember seeing a couple a-bodies that had similar added. not sure if I care for it on an e-body (1/2 vinyl roof)

I too think it would be neat for the car to stay as-built. At their asking though the only buyer that would consider it would be someone looking to modify or fake a car.

no N95 = not expected to be sold NEW in CA

my former CA (N95) FC7 '70 340 Challenger was painted gold & received a 1/2 vinyl top, early in its life also

interesting, born 2 weeks after I was (I've always had a fascination with finding a Cuda born on the same day as me ... there is a black/white one out there somewhere that I found years ago). B7 too, the firewall pic made it look light enough to be B5, but b7 is cool too. he acknowledged my email, so hopefully it will help him decide on what to do re: pricing.

I asked for a photo of the inside of the trunk and he stopped communicating.   :notsure:  Once I see the trunk I can get a good idea of the rust.  Then I was going to take a trailer and cash and see if I could talk some sense in to him.  But he went cold and nothing.

It may be that he pulled up the trunk mat and reality set in.

I think there's a /6 Challenger on c-c, if I remember correctly.
