EV2 - 1971 Barracuda
Disassembly
Is that your car? :inlove: Love me some EV2!!!!! :lookatthat:
Cody, yes this is my car.
I also loved the EV2 at first but after staring at it for three years now . . . maybe not so much for me anymore.
Body Work
71 EV2 Cuda will always be one of my favorites.

Primer
What's the next step in your restoration? Normally getting through paint is the hardest part for people. It's all downhill from there.
Pre Paint / Jamb Work
You changed it to blue? Blue is a good color too Was it originally EV2?

I am already through the paint process thankfully! I will add additional pictures. Just thought this was a good place to track my build. I already have the engine in and the exterior almost complete. Just now starting the interior!

Cody, yes I changed it to blue even though it was an original EV2 car.
Color and Clear
Sand, Cut and Buff
When I'm at the point you are in a restoration I get real excited. Paint's done and pretty much just interior left to do. The blue turned out awesome! Not sure I could change an EV2 to B5 blue, but it's really hard to beat either of those colors. Maybe FC7 would beat them, but any of those colors are the tops in my book.
Thanks for sharing photos. :veryexcited:
Wow! Looks awesome! It's amazing what the cut, buff and polish does to a paint job. Can't wait until mine gets done.
Car looks great!

Yes, it is coming along and getting closer every day!
I struggled with switching a factory EV2 car to something else as well but I wanted something different. Another reason that I didn't go with B5 either. I just wanted a color that nobody else would have. FC7 was also in contention!

Thank you! Yes, it is a ton of work but well worth it if you take your time and do all of the steps correctly . . . end result is amazing!

Maybe yet this summer / fall. :fingerscrossed:
If not then it will have to be next year.

The interior cleaned up nicely. You are so close to being done. Make a push to get her on the road this year. :bigthumb: Going to be a big day to drive it for the first time. Nervous, excited, cautious and so many other feelings all at once. It's hard to describe the feeling of driving a car for the first time after you restore it. Something a person has to feel to fully understand it. Everyone who restores a car joins a special group of people that gets to feel those feelings.

Yep . . . can't wait to join! :veryexcited:
Very nice work and car!
Looks like you painted it in your own garage. What kind of pseudo paint booth did you make?

Thank you! Yes, I did paint the car in my garage. I didn't us anything special, just hung up some tacky plastic on the walls, wet the floor down, turned on a floor fan and went to town.

Nice! There is hope for me after all
WOW! You definitely aren't letting any grass grow under you feet on this build! :worship: :clapping: You'll be done and driving in no time. :driving:
Nice project it's coming along well. Question were the 71 cuda grill painted the same color as the body from the factory or is it something new
It is coming along nicely , looking great

While I am no expert . . . from what I can gather . . .
If the grill was argent silver from the factory, so was the lower valence insert.
If the grill was painted to match the body from the factory, so was the lower valence insert.
All elastomeric bumper cars had painted to match grills.
'71 Barracuda models did not have painted to match grills.
'71 Cuda models had painted to match grills that were available in the following color codes:
FJ6
GY3
FC7
GW3
EV2
GB5
GF7
GK6
FE5
Painted to match grills were standard on Cuda models through the build date of 8-8-70.
After this date the painted to match grills were optional.

I'm no expert either and I agree with most of this info except two comments are not correct in my opinion:
1)
All elastomeric bumper cars had painted to match grills. Not True
2)
After this date the painted to match grills were optional. Not True

Alan is correct. I factory ordered a 1970 Cuda in Oct 1969 with the front body colored elastomeric bumper. As you can see in the attached pictured the grille was argent silver.
it hurt a little to see the manual changed over. but that is a damn nice build, you are knocking it OUT!! what exactly is the color you went with? it seems to change color quite a bit depending on light and angle. really nice job :clapping:
Ev2 to blue and manual to automatic? I missed that.
Personally I'm a fan of EV2 but the blue is a close second and your really looks great, since you did all that work to change the why did you decide to paint the engine compartment and trunk Black instead of body color ?

Just so we are all on the same page and to try to avoid more confusion . . . I was only referencing 1971.

Yeah, it's not for everyone.
Thank you!
Base color started out as Marathon Blue Effect and was customized out from that.
It contains multiple flop agents which lends to it's color changing depending on the light.

Honestly, I just think that the engine bay and trunk look better black.
No other real reason.

Your car looks great. Did you build the engine to stock specs or put a bigger cam in it?
Very few things on my car are stock or OE.
Cam was bumped up a bit from stock but nothing too crazy.
Your car looks just great! :bravo: I personally wouldn't have done what you did, but some people will not like what I will do to my car. To each his own. Interesting choice of engine color.

Yeah, like I said earlier, it is not for everyone. I just want something that nobody else has. Most all '71 Cuda's are OE restorations and that's just not for me. I am not building my car for anyone's approval other than my own! I will enjoy it while I can and then after I'm gone and someone else owns it, they can modify however they see fit.
I hear you and I agree with you! Don't get me wrong, I really like what you have done! :clapping:

Things are looking good. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing some photos.
Felt like a good time for an update . . . I haven't had much time to work on the Cuda over the past several months due to selling our old home and purchasing our new one but I was finally able to get the car moved and she made the trip safe and sound! Hopefully after getting all unpacked, I can get back to finishing up the Cuda here in the next few months or so. Car hasn't seen sunlight since I purchased it and put it in the garage almost four years ago now and started the build so this looked like a good photo opportunity once she was out of the trailer before putting her back to bed!
