Title: Restoring 71 cuda fender gills
Post by: RacerX on February 11, 2023, 08:28:06 PM

Anyone ever restore these?   Mine aren't awful, but they have had a rough life.

It appears they are supposed to be chrome overall, with argent on the inside walls, and flat black
on the ribs at the bottom.    The ribs appear to be cast into the metal and painted, as I see spots
where the black was a bit sloppy and went "outside the lines"  lol      I see some of the repops
referring to "black ribbed inserts" so maybe they cheated and dropped a piece of black plastic in there?

The chrome is not great and the argent and black are flaking off in small areas.  Not severe, but bad
enough that they don't look great.    The metal overall looks OK, no pitting noticed.

What can be done to restore these?    I'd hate to not use them being as they are original to the car
but I definitely don't want to put them on a freshly painted car (whenever that point is reached).
