I bought a couple bootleg "By Plymouth" emblems off ebay a couple of years ago out of Florida, I think that company has since been stepped on for licensing issues.

 :iagree:

A and A emblem were making a crap ton of emblems and this was one of them. Somebody popped him for infringement and TRI put a stop to him. He could sell to a licensee but could not sell them out right. I even offered to buy 500 and he never returned my emails.  Soo at this point there is NO supply point.

cast metal emblem and a chrome process, polish and paint. Expensive to do here in the US as I have looked into this already.

Correct, 1971 only, all Cuda and Barracuda models. The cast pot metal emblem was chrome plated and Cudas should have a multi layer insert that has a black background color and silver lettering. This same casting was used for many applications for many years  (not all were 1971) they just changed the insert to the application. So far all of the reproductions Ive seen were a cast metal and were painted, no insert as originals. In other words, if you have a highly detailed car you'll want to spend the money for an original (Yes, rare and expensive). .02
Title: Re: by plymouth emblem
Post by: anlauto on March 30, 2017, 07:11:14 AM
You'd think they could make a "foil" type insert like the 71-74 dash emblems easy enough... :alan2cents:
Title: Re: by plymouth emblem
Post by: ScottSmith_Harms on March 30, 2017, 08:16:14 AM
The insert was a multi layer sandwich of materials which used a now obsolete process, the top layer being a clear protective film. Doing an exact replica would be challenging.

Yes, those that are silver are simply examples that the black on the foil has faded away. The same manufacturing process was used for all of the inserts used in the day. These Valiant emblems were originals on the same car, one side faced the sun when parked. The Valiant lettering was silver on both, the camera angle makes the first one appear to have dark letters, they were silver.

what colour black do the originals have? are they a gloss or more of a Matte black?
Title: Re: by plymouth emblem
Post by: ScottSmith_Harms on November 23, 2017, 09:58:10 PM
The black was under a sheet of clear material (shiny lamination plastic like Mylar) which gave it a gloss finish. It wasn't paint like some of the current reproductions have.

NOS one's start off black and then they fade over time to a bronzish color.

I've had 2 NOS one's do this so it actually is the correct look.
A little patina is a good thing.

They look nice in the pictures. Great price. If they are as nice as they look in the pictures that will drive the price down on the originals. Some of those guys trying to get outlandish money for nice used ones will wish they had sold theirs a little cheaper when they had the chance.

These emblems are the ones made by OER, made correctly with the stamped foil insert.  There is a very limited quantity that made their way out of OER at this price, pricing was not correct and will be $49 each starting like now.  Get one at this price now before they are gone.  I know Mega Parts, Dave (Roseville Chrysler Jeep) as well as us will have "some" at the $34.99 price.

These things are so nice, chances are, you'll see guys pushing them on ebay as NOS.

Anyone that needs these emblems for the members price, you better get them now, there weren't to many that made it out of Classic at the lower price.  Very sure Dave and I are the only vendors that were lucky enough to have any left.  Not that $50 is an awful price.

All mine on the original dealer pricing came in today, all those that I have orders from, will ship tomorrow.  The price, while supplies last, is $35 plus $7.30 USPS Priority shipping for a whopping total of $42.30.  The $300+ NOS pricing for a "by Plymouth" emblem is officially over.  I just put the first one on one of my 71's, WOW! :perfect10: And the nuts are included.
